This would be the most plausible situation, that would also assume the costs for changing the whole items database was too high/risky, and they wanted to play it safe.

For the 50ies it's not that much of a big deal, but for the lower ranked people, I feel for them.

Ahahaha say that to the OP. Crab Bow +3 will probably still be relevant and powerful for a while. I don't expect the first wave of superior gear to come out seconds after the patch goes live. And if anything it'll be a relic later on so keep those suckers and don't toss them yet!
