Eh, it's a common thing in a lot of areas in life. Some people will try to use concepts like this to elevate themselves in their own mind.

Some part of them wants to believe that they're the unique special snowflake in the storybooks that does something no one else can do, so when everyone else says, "X is subpar" they jump in with, "Haha!! I used X and did ok, so you all must suck!!"
