SE would have to start developing content around this.

I'd much prefer they ditch the cross class system and instead introduce a specialization and talent system, similar to WoW before they revamped it.
I would welcome that, but I think that's too much work for SE to implement. And it isn't a reality for them to do so. However, cross class skills are since DoL/DoH both still retain this ability.

I think you are forgetting something about the current system. It is already balanced out. Sure, in your example, melee can do swift cast + res to res someone, however, for one, they can only do it out of battle. Secondly, each job only have 5 slots for cross class skills. Even if a melee were able to take those two skills, that would mean they will be leaving out 2 more important skills out of their slot. And of course you can't change on the fly during battle, this won't cause a balancing problem. But I hope that they will let DoW use DoM's cross class skills. Because in 1.0, this was not possible. DoW skills belongs to DoW only and vice versa.

Personally I think the current system is very lackluster. The dev team is trying to fit everyone into this mold with little wiggle room. MMORPG strives on progress, freedom, and customization. Most long lasting mmo out there include a vast amount of all three, including RO, MS, WoW, FF11, and so on so forth. What MMO player looks for when they play MMO is to build their character the way they want. But restricting that can only lead to turn offs. I already am seeing friends reaching level 60 without anything to do and eventually shut off their subscription. SE has to realize that no amount of gating will stop a player's progress. And of course, they can't keep up with the player's progress with continuous updates. Their attempts is only going to turn players off.
