If any Primal ends up working like this it'd be....Zodiark
I wouldn't say it's about patience. It's more about different demographic.
Back in the day MMOs were MAINLY (and I mean like 80+%) played by young people with close to no obligations. Older people didn't really understand games much. Nowadays (yes, it's one word) that's quite different, a LOT of MMO players have jobs, families, friends, etc. outside of the game and can't just spend a week doing nothing else than play during their waking hours.
To have a constant 10+ hour fight? In an open world? No thanks.
However, let's say you have a fight split in five parts. When you finish one part you have to return another day to do the next. Manage to finish all five in a week and you get an extra bonus (besides the loot from each part).
Every part could introduce new mechanics and even be in new areas (lore wise you could be chasing down a beast).
The final battle could be a top a mountain where it is cornered.
This I could accept. Would give incentive to play and something to do between grinding.
If we had something like a trial boss that we fought in phases (1 phase per day) and we would be rewarded based on how much progress was achieved or how many phases were passed that could be something cool. Like a world boss that appears at set times each day for a set time slot and people would be rewarded based on their contribution and the overall progress of the server. Might just be a colossal waste of time but if done right it could be something good.

I don't recommend open world though or thearea would be absolutely overcrowded if people knew when it would spawn.
And uf they don't know then it defeats the purpose of doing it every day.
Yea I wasn't thinking about open world, would have to be 8-man instance. Split into parts is what we have now basically, I'm thinking something along the lines of an endurance race but more accessible because, yes, there are very few people who can commit to one long 10-hour trial or raid. Could possibly have HP checkpoints that correspond to phases, such that you could say, spend a couple hours getting it to 80% (phase 1), take a break, go back in the next day and get to 60% (phase 2) etc etc.
does anyone remember the FFXI event in 2003 after christmas with the sparkling trents in various zones where it was a server wide effort to kill them that rewarded the outpost warps ? I imagine something like this could be fun againImagine something like this to take over say the Aetheryte area in the makers quarter in the Hinterlands in order to enable the zone teleport for there.
