For the vast majority of people, FFXIV and WoW are really different experiences. FFXIV doesn't take what it happens to attract the majority of the WoW base be default. It essentially has no PVP, the artstyle is off putting for people that aren't into anime or Japanese games.

If you ever read the community chat in general, forums, dungeons etc, you will see there is little fanbase overlap.

Truth is most people would rather quit MMOs than try another one, for many WoW is their first and last MMO. Investment in this genre means a lot.

Why on earth would a consumer want competing companies to finish one or the other off? You know what that means right?

And how exactly do we profit from WoW's demise? That's one less MMO on the market, one less product for consumers to enjoy.

I don't expect a huge amount of the WoW players who quit to migrate here all of a sudden. The few reasons they've been playing WoW is because of the amount of time they've invested in it, the friends they've made, maybe an addiction to it, etc. Once they're realised they'll be perfectly fine without WoW, or anything like it, I don't see them joining another.

A lot of the complains aimed at WoD also apply to FFXIV. Lack of open world content? Can't say FFXIV has much of that. Not enough major raid content? FFXIV has 1 hardcore raid with 4 bosses (one of which isn't even a boss) every 6 months, and only 2 difficulties, the 3.1 raid has 1 difficulty and will be beat within the first hour or two. PvP? They're not even bothering with that. This is not to mention the differences in gameplay and general aesthetic that'll turn a lot of WoW players off. They're used to orcs and demons, and come into here seeing cutesy demons and cat girls. 2.5 second GCD compared to WoW's 1s or 1.5s (don't really remember).

I can sign under this. I don't think FFXIV has what it takes to kill WoW and unfinished PvP is only the tip of the Iceberg.

I don't think this game will ever have PVP that's worth anything. You cant really force it onto FF fans in general.

That's great though because WoW PvP has always been horrid and unbalanced.

I'd honestly say this game's pvp is much better even with how limited it is.

I would disagree that the issues with WoD are particularly present in FF14. That's not to say FF14 is flawless but WoD is a train wreck. There is numerous issues ranging from the perceived attitude of developers to the seriously broken story to the fact they only had one real content patch for the entire expansion cycle. That's not even touching on stuff like PvP, class design changes, the mess that is crafting and how grindy and boring garrisons ended up. WoW has lost almost half its subs in 6 months. FF14 isn't close to having WoW's issues.

However you right that FF14 isn't going to automatically appeal to WoW players. What appeals to different players varies greatly. That's why the 'this is what you need to do to get more subs' threads tend to be silly. It works on the assumption that everyone wants the same things.

They don't have the power to kill off WoW, even though I think WoW is extremely boring, easy, it still provides more challenge than this game. I brought someone to this game just last week whose never played an MMORPG before and they were screaming at me about where's the challenging content.

As boring as WoW is people like it, that's why even with WoW bleeding out subs they still hands down have more subs than any MMO out.

WoW doesn't really have much challenging content outside its mythic raiding. It does generally have more high level raid content though. Probably a choice by SE since generally the number of players who actually do that level of raiding is pretty small. Even in WoW it's generally less than 10% of the playerbase.

Regardless, FF14 isn't killing WoW and it isn't going to. WoW's problems are completely due to Blizzard's choices. As for if WoW can or will die anytime soon, that depends entirely on WoW. I doubt 6 months ago anyone would have believed WoW would hit less than 6 million subs half a year after the expacs release. The current trends should certainly be concerning to Blizzard.
