really wish they'd rewrite GB to be anything else, no visible attachment of any kind

they spent dev time creating a glamour system (yay) so we wouldn't have to equip anything we thought looked horrible, but you can't glamour away this awful spinning robo-metroid that we're forced to stick to every gun from now til forever

Best way to describe the bullets used is...

Standard Aether Bullet = Unlimted Ammo Aether Bullet

Ammo Aether Bullet = Thermal Aether Clip

At least the Machinist is not restricted to only limited ammunition

So, making the resource for basic attacks TP on the class is a necessity for balancing issues in regards to this skill, and likely why the choice was made....
Well the use of TP and MP can be explained by your own theory ^^

The Aetherconverter is taking what is around you, to have bullets that have more impact you either need to raise their velocity or their weight. If the weight rises the energy transmitted rises as well as when you raise the speed. Speed has a an exponential in that but i dont think you can compare ether bullets with real life physics xD

Long text, the point i wanna make:
From the sound and animation it looks like either the Barrel is charging up to add more velocity via an electromagnetic punch OR (now comes the one that makes more sense to me) it adds more aether to the bullets and so increases the damage on impact made. I'd clearly take this over the "charge to add speed" because you still fire Slug and Clean Shot without any charge which leads me to the conclusion that the trigger of the skills (by adding charged ammunition or by chance that enough Aether was around to to trigger it) adds more aether into the shots and so allowing for instant release of the bullet for more damage and no cast time when shot with the gauss active

but thats just my two cent, i still like her jumping around like crazy in chains ;3

Well you guys make good points, enough to renew my excitement in the job.

I still think the animations need work though, things on long CD's should look sastifying and not make you go "oh is that it???". With Phys ranged being casters now they should have some of that flair, casting something for it to go "pop" on an enemy just is not satisfying... At least ruin gets a projectile...

BRD's slightly disjointed animations were not too bad due to their playstyle being so fast but now it has slowed down tremendously and the issue's in the visuals become much more apparent. This principle is exactly the same for MCH but there is even less excuse for them as they were designed with casting in mind from the ground up.

Gauss rifles use magnetized coils/rings to accelerate a projectile.

So the in-game Gauss Barrel is rather literal and adding one to the gun I guess...

I have no issue with the way that the Gauss Barrel isn't actually attached to the gun. Machinists already field anachronisitically high-tech equipment in the form of the Turrets, so seeing a floating drone hovering in front of my gun barrel to enhance performance wasn't jarring at all. Heck, the way it periodically "twiches" makes it pretty clear it's not intended to look as though it's attached to the gun itself.

Replying to a lot of things on the first page:

In early interviews, attachments were implied to be a type of ability. This would mean that there was multiple. The other attachment(s) were probably scrapped or shelved during development.

Yes, it looks stupid as hell on Ferdinand. Both of the barrels are misaligned and would probably break the floating spider/urinal donut.

The Gauss barrel and MCH pouch change color on dyable weapons.

Edit: Wait, someone enjoyed the MCH questline? It was literally the worst job/class questline I've seen. It was boring and predictable as all hell.
Further, the entire argument that MCH puts brains entirely over brawn is purely a problem with the fact that MCH doesn't have a Class, and just a Job. Rogues are dashing chaotic good types, and they go into great detail about why they use knives compared to other weapons. You learn about most DoW's through their classes, that's where their martial capability comes from. Imagine if NIN never had the ROG questline, you'd never learn anything about their dagger-play, it would just be the ninjutsu.
That's the problem with MCH. There's some minor lip-service that a pirate taught you how to hold a gun, but that's really, really, really, lame. Every other job/class quest has the player be someone special. The MCH questline sort of has you as the best assistant to a guy that barely demonstrates he knows what he is doing. Him and his prospectometer can go screw themselves.

Not factually true. Mine was hitting for 6k no problem from i180 onward. On rare occasion 7-8.6k when the star align and RNG blesses me.
