I will agree with this. As a PLD, yeah, it's a little frustrating to throw my biggest abilities and have the boss's HP bar not even budge, but at the end of the day, that's not my job. My job is keeping the enemies focused on me. As long as I'm doing enough DPS to do that effectively, my DPS doesn't really matter (and failing a DPS check is a very rare thing for the groups I've been in, as taking less damage lets the healers stay in Cleric Stance more).

I'll also point out, though, that clutch use of Clemency and Divine Veil have allowed me to save the many a group from a wipe. The extra healing aggro I generate also helps keep the bosses and mobs fixed on me, so that's a plus.

Actually, no, it's not that simple.

Recently, I've helped some people in my FC on their first T13 try. They had pretty much no idea about what to expect but we were all lvl60.
We were...destroyed ! Each phase was really short thanks to the massive increase in our DPS, but without any knowledge, Mega Flare and Divebombs just ripped us a new one.
And that's just after breezing through T10 with the same lack of knowledge, because it's only a "DPS check".

If Alex savage is as focused on DPS check than people says it is, I'm sure far more people will have cleared it by the end of 3.x than people cleared Coil at the end of 2.x.

It's the same with our poor Ifrit EX. Why was it the "highest" one ? Because it has more HP and deal more damage...which is irrelevant when everybody has new gear. Titan EX...nope, still a pain for lots of people. If you can't dodge Landslide, nobody cares how many HP you have or how much DPS you can do

There is a DPS obsession because everything challenging in this game has tight DPS checks where healers and tanks have to damage too, which is another bullshit that Yoshida told us when he said his team wasn't factoring healers' damage when tuning content.

Well, actually, when the question was asked (Before HW launch), Yoshida specifically used the past tense.
So it's not really a lie. Before, HW, they weren't factoring healer's or tank's damage.

It could explain why we feel the DPS check much more demanding now, since lots of healers and tanks actually did decent damage when it's wasn't expected in past content.

It's not even that. Alex Savage is almost assuredly tuned assuming at least i190 (perhaps even higher) for AS1, and probably higher for each successive turn. The groups pushing to clear them at this point probably don't all have the item levels the content is designed for. Yoshi even addressed this in the interview to which you're referring--they know people use healer/tank DPS when they don't have the item levels the content is designed for, and they are okay with that.

With better gear, Statics are now slowly letting Paladins back into their raid groups and some are even experimenting with them in A4 Savage after hitting that wall. Monks and Astrologians not so much.

Statics have no reason to take a monk into A1S-A3S over a Dragoon or a Ninja. Dragoons on average deal more overall damage with equal gear, has the piercing debuffs for your Bards or Machinist and and boost your raid's overall DPS with Battle Litany. Ninjas have their Trick Attacks and Slashing Debuff (if you're Warrior is main tanking) for themselves and all their tanks and other raid utility like enmity control. Dark Knights makes it so you know longer need a Monk for Dragon Kick anymore. Besides potentially being Top 3 DPS when played correctly, Monks don't really bring anything special to the raid group. No one even gives an iota to Mantra. It's not like the Monk is AST bad, it's why take that Job when you have two others Jobs that fulfills the same role but does a lot more?

A supplementary healer would be more broken than a supplementary dps. The reason dps is a focus is because there are so many dps checks in the content design and dps is a party wide responsibility, dps simply fulfill that part of a fight better than everyone else.
As the combat is now you should never need a PLD to heal anyone, if you do then someone made a mistake or is not doing something right. Only way it could go otherwise is if they intended for you to have a supplementary healer which it shouldn't because that would be dumb.

Seems like a bunch of corporate fat-cats screeching about the bottom line, and the $$$ of FFXIV is DPS. The squeaky wheel spoke, the Dev's answered, and now we're painted into a corner where only DPS is "viable." i.e. "If you make PLD a healer, you should be able to replace a healer with a DPS. If it can't DPS, nobody will play it."

You should play it because it's fun because this is a GAME.
I encourage you to look in the Tank Roles forum where there are MANY threads, specifically for Paladin - about this issue. You're not the only one.

You are pretty much the only one making them.
