It's going to have to happen anyway probably because it seems that the servers are choking from all of the activity in them. And even with all of these fixes, we would still have to:
a. Zone, and run to retainers for every single item we want to purchase, sometimes sending us to multiple zones and NPCs just to purchase a simple gear set - as illustrated in this example:
b. Deal with the fact that we probably won't be able to set up a retainer in the more popular wards, because presumably hundreds of thousands of people would be trying to sell their crap on multiple retainers.
and lastly,
c. Deal with the fact that we have to find our storage NPC - assuming we DO get it set up in the wards - among a forest of NPCs. And by your logic, the wards should be BIGGER, meaning we'd have to search EVEN MORE.
Not to mention there would be even more NPCs in the room that don't spawn unless they're in a three foot radius from your character.
Again, the system is FUNDAMENTALLY flawed because of the different wards, and because of the retainers. The only way to "fix" the wards, would be to get rid of the wards. Since so many people like them (not really), I am (and many others are) proposing an AH as an alternative to wards.
There is supposed to be a signature here.

I've never seen an AH crash.
It is true. Are you saying you enjoy searching for an item, zoning, searching for an NPC, buying the item, running to a door and searching for an item again, and then zoning again, and then searching for another NPC, again and again until you have all of the crap you need?
If so I'd say you're a masochist. NOBODY ELSE enjoys that, we're all just putting up with it because it's what we have. If it's all we have at "relaunch", then it will get destroyed by the critics all over again. It's a stupid mark to have against this game. I'm not saying we need an AH next patch, I'm saying it is absolutely necessary that we have it before they attempt to relaunch this game.
To sum up your response:Boo hoo, you have to walk a little bit. Let me buy you a Segway and a reservation on the Buy 'n' Large Axiom.
Hundreds of thousands again, huh? There are 18 servers. Let's say hypothetically this game gets popular to the point that there are a million people playing. That still divides out to between 50,000 and 60,000 people per server. Not exactly hundreds of thousands.
Your retainer (and any NPCs targeted by an item search) are given a higher spawn priority. You will not only see them from a greater distance, but they are clearly discernible from the rest due to your retainer's name display being a different color, and the star icon above the heads of searched out NPCs. Not very difficult unless something's wrong with your eyes.
So?
"I'm used to this shitty system, so everyone else should get used to it, too". That's not how you win subscriptions.

do you read what you are replying to before you reply? now rethink what you just typed while keeping in mind my suggested improvements.I've never seen an AH crash.

I covered all the bases:
greatly improved search
buying from the search menu
showing HQ in the search results
delivery service
combined wards
All this can be done while keeping what we already have. Ever heard the phrase "throwing the baby out with the bathwater"?
...and yes I have seen the AH in XI crash.

I haven't seen it happen, but I stand corrected.
Again that is essentially what I'm arguing for, EXCEPT with this system there is no use for retainers, or wards. If you are going to make it so we buy everything from the search menu, then we may as well be able to post our items up from the search menu, too. We would not have to fight for space in the wards this way, or zone to get to our storage.do you read what you are replying to before you reply? now rethink what you just typed while keeping in mind my suggested improvements.

However, as I've said before, I'd be happy if they added this in the form of an AH, and kept the wards for whoever would rather use those.

Again if you read my suggestions, I said that we would have the OPTION to buy from the menu for a fee and a small time delay before we'd receive the item. This does three things, it adds incentive to use the retainers in the new system and allows those who want to buy from the menu the option to do so and also creates a gil sink. (We need more of those)I haven't seen it happen, but I stand corrected.

Also, I'm not sure how it is on your server, but on Fabul there is always space in the wards now, we haven't had to 'fight for space' since 1.18.

On Besaid, the popular wards are always full. Menders Row, the tailor's wards, battlecraft, spellcraft. I haven't been able to set my retainer up in those wards since shortly after 1.18. And this is without the assumed influx of players that we'll get at "relaunch".Again if you read my suggestions, I said that we would have the OPTION to buy from the menu for a fee and a small time delay before we'd receive the item. Again, if you're going to give us a decent search function, and a way to buy from the menu, it may as well be separated from the wards. I don't care if it's taxed. I just want a better, and more user friendly system. Just because we're used to the wards, and are putting up with them, does not mean that they are good.
