Well on the server I am on every single market ward is full of retainers, finally managed to get one in last night after the server reset, and then the market wards crashed and i've had to set her up 4 more times since. And now this time I entered a market ward and am not stuck in it as the menu to exit/search/change wards doesn't come up anymore.

Hah, we're both on Besaid.Well on the server I am on every single market ward is full of retainers, finally managed to get one in last night after the server reset, and then the market wards crashed and i've had to set her up 4 more times since. And now this time I entered a market ward and am not stuck in it as the menu to exit/search/change wards doesn't come up anymore.
I've only really attempted to sell things in Spellcraft, Tailor, and tried to get repairs in Mending. They're ALWAYS full.
In my opinion revamping the economy should be as much a priority as the battle revamp was, and it starts with eliminating the focus on Wards, just like battle revamp started with elimination of the action bar.To be honest, prior to the game's release I thought this was what they were advertising when it came to retainers. It sounded more like you could run your own little npc vendor store as a side hobby if that was your fancy. How involved as a retailer would have been based on your investment (store versus stand, etc) And that I thought was cute and clever.
However, zombie room full of NPCs peddling wares like a back alley market was what I got. Personally I have no affection for it and wish it were gone. It feels like a blemish on the game. I don't even see any arguments legitimately for the wards other than people rather focus on fixing other things first. Rather than waste time dolling them up, I can't help but feel it's in the better interest of the game in the long term to simply rid of them and implement a more user friendly and familiar AH system.
They can touch the wards up all they want, but it's just a waste of time compared to the potentially better system that an AH would bring in.
If I could set a retainer up near outposts or aetheryte camps, that would actually make them 100 times more useful. Also being able to level them up, get special outfits for them, things like that would be pretty cool, too. It'd make me like my retainers, at least. That said, I think parts of the original concept like you mentioned would be nice recycled back into the game.
I remember in my time on FFXI, it became a lucrative business to park mule characters at strategic areas with bazaars tailored for that area. Especially stealth potions in high aggro zones, or foods and ninja tools near exp camps. I was really hoping that wards and retainers would eventually evolve to something more akin to running a business rather than just parking and hoping your price is lower than the other 50 zombies surrounding you.

Ok, I am not quoting anyone but this is what I have experienced since 1.19 patch.
1) I log in set up my retainer....
2) come back 30 mins later thinking something sold, no it was wards shutdown or reset.
3) reset my retainer.....
4) go out and experience the amazing new content...
5) come back thinking something sold... again... no that was wards reseting again.
6) set up my retainer yet again along with my second retainer cause now I have back stock that piling.(that needs to sell)
7) go out and experience some other new content ^^b
8) come back thinking something sold but id be stupid if I believed that, and of course i was right, wards rest AGAIN!
9) DO I HAVE TO KEEP GOING?
Can we get some AH action going on here? I have seen so many people asking for an AH, but alas, no AH....
(encase you are wondering AH mean Auction house..) <~~~ maybe why they haven't implemented it yet!!! zomg maybe that's it!
Seriously I dont wanna turn this into a rage letter. I love everything about this patch it is plain freaking awesome!
So why not put the cherry on the fabulous cake you call Final Fantasy 14and add a auction house!!!!

We could probably fix the majority of the ward crashing ourselves if everyone would stop insisting on setting up their retainers in Ul'dah. I can't remember the last time I saw the Gridanian wards crash.
This is what the arguments of the anti-new-features-players have come down to? Blame the players? Really?

I wasn't blaming anyone, just advocating a proactive (and temporary) possible solution. The wards shouldn't crash the way they do, but since that's the case, it's not a bad idea to try to help from our end.
I don't think that's a very practical solution, really. It takes long enough to find something as it is, having to move between the three countries to track things down would be awful. I for one would take the crashes so that I can see all of the items in one place.
Also, has this been posted?:
One of the answers from the LIVE thing, looks like 'the Market' is a big priority so we might get an AH quite soon. Kinda sad they're basing it off XI's system for either of those things, because both were pretty clunky in that game.A: This is a very important topic for us and we are currently looking into creating a system where it is much easier to form parties.
A minor adjustment has been made to the party formation system when Dzemael Darkhold was implemented but we consider that it's not yet complete. I believe that the Market and the party formation system are the next big issue so we are planning to use FFXI's system as a reference and make an adjustment as soon as possible. Schedule and details on this will be announced once they are ready so please hang on.

Now we just need to have some players all in Ul'dahn GC gear march over to the wards and "post" a notice:
"The Ul'dah Market Wards are currently experiencing difficulties due to overload and may be unavailable. Please set up your retainers in the Market Dens in Gridania instead until further notice. We thank you for your cooperation."
Well, it might work on Besaid (the unofficial RP server) at least!Gridania was really busy last night too.
Seriously though, if the servers can't handle this many people, I don't know how they are going to manage with a regularly larger population. Yes, there were a lot of people on due to the recent patch, but I'd like to think the amount of people on was what a game with a nice robust population would have at peak play time, not a ridiculous overload of people.
While these might be short-term problems the long term solutions shouldn't rely on the system not crashing when people use it only in a certain way. Honestly though I don't remember having to deal with server crashes ever in XI's AH system. I don't remember one single time when there were emergency fixes or problems caused only by the AH system. MW in addition to killing the economy in it's infancy also seems to kill itself on regular basis.
I went there to crash the game a few times but now I just figured that grinding with gimped gear is way less of a hassle than to boot the game every few minutes when trying to buy something
