Regula van Hydrus (potential spoilers until the end of Heavensward)

I keep seeing everyone refering to Van Hydrus as a 'he'; I can't be the only one absolutely certain it's a she under that helmet, can I?

I had a feeling just based on her interaction with the Emperor when we first see them; she gave me a bit of a Livia feel, and something about her body/armor shape strikes me as feminine, despite the blessed lack of boob plate, but I was stumped as to how to prove my theory...

Well, Garlean names follow a Latinesque naming convention, and based on Latin grammatical rules, 'Regula' is clearly a female name; a male would be named Regulo or Regulus. Granted, we only have two other named Garlean females, but both of them have names ending in 'A', which on a Latin noun indicates that the subject is female.

Well, the voice-overs we get really do make him sound masculine, and van Hydrus would have to be fairly flat-chested to be female.

yep and with the voice could be a voice changer in the helmets like in starwars storm troopers and clone troopers and stuff.

I would love for them to finally include a female leader of a major imperial fleet.

During the fight in the Aetherochemical Research Facility, and I think in the scene before you fight him in Azys Lla. I'd have to check his voice in other languages to see if they all sound as definitively male as they do in English.

The body type fits a male garlean as well. I agree though that some female Garlean antagonist leaders would be good to see.

He looks and sounds distinctly male. It'd be a bit weird if he suddenly turned out to be female - and I'm not really sure what such a reveal would add to the plot, if anything.

If it's a plot point that Regula has strong feelings for Varis on a personal level(as indicated by the way in which they interact) then I don't see why he would need to be secretly female for that.
