I dunno if this was ever brought up, but I understand the reason why we can't mail random people. But can we at least be able to send in game mail to people on our FC?

Put them on your friend list.
Friends list?
I'm just some guy...
It would be helpful for a FC leader to be able to send mail to all FC members at once. For announcing crafting drives, special raiding day, and what-not.
You could use the FC login message for that, but it isn't ideal and only somewhat serves the purpose, especially if you want to do multiple events with descriptions. What would be more useful is some kind of in-game FC calendar. Though I'd bet SE wouldn't be able to do it due to <server_capacity_issue_here>.
Don't underestimate them! For just 5 dollars a month your FC leader will be able to mass-mail the entire FC at will! Please look forward to it!
The login message is limited, which is a problem if your FC likes to schedule multiple events. There just isn't enough space available to point members to an FC Lodestone page, advertise a combined crafting effort, let everyone know what stage workshop projects are at, raids, dungeons, and so on.
Additionally, for some folks the login message get lost in the bundle of login messages regarding marriages, maintenance notices, and what-not.
It would be nice to at least be able to mail the officers.
I shouldn't have to clig my friends list with my own FC just so I can mail things to them.
My leader lives in the middle East. Sometimes it's harder to catch him online. Being able to send mail about problems or questions and stuff would be a lot easier than hoping playtimes align when you need them to.
This system exists outside of the game in the Lodestone. Unfortunately not many people use it or even know that it exists. Japanese people use it way more than we do, even for such mundane things as recruiting for a single party which we generally use the PF for.
