Warrior = Axe? Why no Great swords?

I was expecting the Warrior to be wielding a Great Sword not an Axe since we don't have Great Swords in this game. How many of you wanted the Warrior to be wielding Great Swords instead of an Axes?
I am really disappointed that Great Swords will not be implemented any time soon.

Great Swords are nothing more than bigger swords (in terms of FF) so it would just be another sword subtype if anything, likely 2handed (no shield able to being worn but grips possible.)

Historically, in FF games the "Warrior" classline generally had an Axe of some kind as their main weapon but could use others. The previous online FF game they used Great Axe as their main weapon.

Axes fit the Warrior bit, it's not a problem IMO. Though I think we also need greatsword and 2-handed hammer classes down the road.

It's entirely possible. I mean Conjurers and Thaumaturges both have one and two-handed versions of their weapons.

Axe suits war just fine it was their best wep in FF 11 but that's another story <.<

I'd rather have great swords reserved for a Dark Knight or similar class, Great Axes fits warriors well, I'd like to see multiple weapons be avaliable for each class however, like 2h maces, warhammers, katars, x-bows etc

I like the idea that Dark Knights will be using Great Swords. But don't Dark Knights use Scythes instead?
As long as there will be Great Swords for damage dealing, it wouldn't matter which class.

Theyre not making anymore classes til much later... after jobs... probably in an expansion...

And dark knights can use sword/shield, great sword, and scythe, but with the way the armory system works, probably either just greatsword or just scythe. hoping greatsword, dont really care for scythes all that much.

Historically DRKs used Swords in FF. FFXI saw them actually using a Scythe as their main weapon and Great Swords alongside it, they could also use Dagger, Swords and Clubs with adequate skill.
