    As I was discussing with one of my FC mates, I'd love to see something similar to the Blue Mage as well ... but a bit different than what people are used to/thinking about.

    I'd love to see it as Relm in FFVI, utilizing paintings to copy monster abilities. Throughout the Job Quests, you could be given new types of paints as well as monsters to make portraits of during battle. Perhaps switch between paint colours similar to stances or the like. For instance, with a Red paint coat you could mimic attacks of Red Dragons, Bombs, etc. But with Blue, you could do things like Sahagin or some of the many aquatic-themed monsters. Perhaps even past level 60 you can cross-paint, giving you the ability to paint portraits of monsters with multiple colour schemes. These would give you skills and buffs like Aqua Breath for a cone shaped spell in front of you, or an explosion attack in an AoE around you that takes either a portion of your HP or gives you Vulnerability up for a short time.

    I think it'd be an awesome idea. I'd also love to weild a massive paint brush with magic-imbued paint during battle to do close range magic damage with auto attacks.

    You've got a good point. Following the trend, first we got a melee DPS, then physical ranged; consistency would call for the next DPS (if only given one) to be a caster.

    On a slightly related note: It was once said that Blue Mage wouldn't be so possible due to people perhaps not having certain abilities. This COULD be possible with what we already have:
    For abilities - Literally obtained through job quests. That way someone at max level can't possibly not have the ability unless they didn't complete job quests. SMN essentially already does this with pitting you against the Egis first.
    For use of abilities - How about adapting the mudra system a bit? Essentially a symbol(s) entry + trigger ability function, i.e. symbol 1 + symbol 3 + symbol 2 = Void Fire III/Curse [TP Steal]/Bad Breath/Wicked Wheel/Ravensbeak (Note: These are all random enemy abilities I could think of on the fly and doesn't imply having to take on Garuda/Nael to gain)

    SE take a look at how NIN and SMN work, and you can totally make Blue Mage possible.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    So Red Mage for you then? o3o Well honestly that's pretty much what a red mage should be a kinda hybrid melee magic.

    Since I do feel we need either some new form of hybrid or a caster I'll actually put my votes in for Red Mage as a melee caster hybrid, and *drum rolls* Puppet Master..... Not the FFXI version, as that is totally not doable in FFXIV. But if you look back at all the "Puppetmasters" in previous FF games they tend to fill different slots, Cait Sith from FFVII was, at least when I played with him, more of a melee character, and Lulu from FFX was the party blm. So it could be seen as a melee magic hybrid.
