That trainwreck of a stream was a sight to behold. People should lay off on him, but at least we were given the beauteous bounty of the "healers pls" meme.

That and I don't think a rebellious mod will ever not be funny.

All of that aside, I think I see the problem here. His criticism of the msq is pretty spot-on with the game having very trivial (not easy— trivial) gameplay for an extended period, and the attempted solution of a boost was a decent alternative— if he had done his homework.

This is a situation that might have been salvaged if he weren’t streaming, since he was pressured to know too much with too little preparation. With a direct boost and basic rotation just MSQ questing would be a viable option, but to jump into extreme he’d need to be able to play at a 70 extreme level. That includes understanding how his job’s rotation works (without concentrating on the rotation), how this game handles telegraphs (and how they might appear to lie), and a basic idea of how this game’s roles and jobs function differently than other games he’s played.

To do all of this would have taken several days. The best he could handle with the preparation he had made was probably a grand tour of the normal and hard mode trials starting from titan normal and running up all the way to Shinryu. He might need to repeat one or two to nail basic game mechanics and to not be a straight carry.

And he needs a bit of humility not to blame his healers or the game when it’s his unfamiliarity with the game that’s at fault.

Perhaps he’ll give the game another go; I can only hope he sees this somehow. But I’d strongly suggest he try this out offstream until he’s comfortable enough to make his debut. That and if he’s going to criticize the story, at least spend some time watching some cutscenes first— the leadup to sastasha is hardly enough to get a gauge on the seven hundred quests that follow.

Totally agreed.

The gameplay is pretty much one-hundred percent about individual accountability (conversely, WoW's gameplay is mostly about a group's collective reactions to things like damage spikes, boss movements, etc.). FFXIV asks a lot more of individual players to not trigger devastating (but also extremely telegraphed) mechanical counters - to, at a very essential level, 'know the fights.' If you don't do your homework going into these encounters and then wipe your team, that says more about you as a gamer than it does about the game itself.

This is also along the line of thinking as to why we are not getting Mythic plus anytime soon as Yoshi P basically said the small group sizes plus accountability would be hard to design for so they are going with the bigger raids.

Honestly, SQEX should remove boosts from players who didn't completed the story once on the account. Boost is clearly for alts but since they introduced those, we got really bad players that would simply boost then quit the game because they did not learned the very basics.

As for Clown69, he tried to eat a melon directly biting in without any knowledge of how to eat a melon. He then talked shit about the melon and directly said it taste bad, complaining that it's not strawberry.
But in the end, he said that he enjoyed the color and the roundness of the melon.

I like BDO yet I know for sure many many people do not like it and that's fine it's not for everyone, people should just chill out instead of getting super defensive.

Defensive?

I just see a lot of people making fun of him. Which isn't nice.. but you can't really say that he:

a.Gave the game any sort of fair shot. If you're gonna skip pot, maybe go watch a couple guides to explain not to stand in orange or what the savage mechanics are.
b.had any validity to any claims he made about understanding his class or that it was his partymembers that were to blame for failing
c. had any intention of doing anything other than hopping on a bandwagon.


FFXIV is not for everyone and if he tried it and reviewed it fairly nobody would care if he really didn't like it.. but he Meme'd it up and now.. well.. Everyone laugh at the clown cause it's definitely what he is. I'd bet this is possibly even what he wanted: Attention, negative OR positive.

He didn't like the game so okay? He's entitled to his opinion. It's not going to be right game for everyone. He can go back to playing whatever games he does like.

What's really crazy is the number of people who let random streamers decide what they should like instead of trying things for themselves and forming their own opinions.
