You're right, I didn't word that quite as I intended. Of course they're not mutually exclusive - it's perfectly possible to look utterly cutesy and still be incredibly badass. What I meant was that some people prefer to have a not-cutesy but instead just badass looking female character. Like if the female Au Ra looked as tall and fierce and mean as the Au Ra males. Instead they're just another "cute monster girl" that pretty much looks like Miqo'te with scales.
I saw what I thought was an au ra lady as tall as I was and my first reaction was like, "wow she looks so cool!" ...and then I saw that she was standing on a table and I let out a sad sigh.
I'm fine with it if they want to enforce some physiological differences between the races and sexes. I just hope the next time they introduce a race, they take the opportunity to make the female half something besides waifu bait. What I would have liked to see with the Au Ra is one clan being pretty much the way they are now, and the other clan flip flopping the differences with the boys being the squirts and the girls being big. That was a good opportunity to make a distinct difference between clans and they just phoned it in like they did with most of the other racial clans. The Hyur dichotomy between Highlanders and Midlanders is really good, so where was that effort for the other five?

Look...it's Japan. Waifus make more money than non-waifus. Until proven otherwise waifus are here to stay, be them catgirls or dragongirls.I'm fine with it if they want to enforce some physiological differences between the races and sexes. The proportions will probably start to look off in the case of male vs female Au Ra if they were given the same height range. (Since height just adjusts the character size, but not proportions)
It probably wouldn't matter for most other races though, since the gender height gap is smaller.
This is probably the most valid of all objections to the OP's suggestion. Go in the char creator and play with the height slider a bit. Notice that it's not actually a height slider per se, it's a scale slider. Going up makes the character bigger in all dimensions--which means taller = wider too.The proportions will probably start to look off in the case of male vs female Au Ra if they were given the same height range. OP doesn't want just tall girls, she wants women as tall or taller than the males of that race. I can't see (or want to see) SE rework the current races to give such an option. Closest we have is Lalafells, and Hyurs where Fhighlanders are the same height as midlanderM.
If Elezens and Roes taught SE anything, its that the majority of players of both genders don't really like playing big females. We see more female highlanders because there are players that want to play females humans with "western" aesthetics.
I don't think SE would create a race where most men don't want to play them because they're squirts, and most females don't want to play them either because they're bulky.
I would like to have my Au Ra be as tall as female Highlander, but I don't mind so much.
If you want to play a tall character, the tall races have very beautiful women. I love female highlander, I love the look of female roegadyn and elezen girls are so beautiful too.
