Do you no longer receive XP if you are dead after a dungeon boss is defeated?

Hello,

I was wondering if you guys could clarify the death penalty in a regular main story quest dungeon for me. Today, I was doing a dungeon for the first time and I unfortunately died seconds before the boss was defeated. I saw in the general chat log that I did not receive XP for the boss but I received XP for swiftly completing the dungeon. Now, I've been playing FFXIV for half a year or so, and I do remember that in previous dungeons even if I died, I did receive XP for the boss fight. So now I am wondering if this is in fact a bug (XP received, but no record in general chat log) or I really didn't receive anything. Thank you in advance!

Were you playing unsynced or something unusual? It's strange not to get boss XP but can't say I've ever noticed.

I am pretty sure currently you will get no exp while the boss is being killed when you are dead,
Simply it doesn't count as your kill, ie. when you are doing a relic zodiac book, you need to kill this boss again.

But I am not sure how did it work long long time ago ^^; Hopefully someone with good memory can tell me, too.

I wasn't playing synced, and I am not at any end game stuff yet. I've read and heard about not getting XP for level 50 things... but I was wondering if that was a mechanic solely just for those end game hunts/dungeons/whatever.

Sorry should have replied here instead of the quick reply lol Haven't used forums in awhile haha But nothing unusual. I was playing unsynced and it was the dungeon Dzemael Darkhold to be exact.

So playing 'unsynched' means doing it the new way with a higher level character than the normal method, and doing it unsynched is what gives no XP. But a lot of people refer to this backwards, do you really mean you did the dungeon normally without the special options checked related to undersize party etc?

So I did the dungeon normally without any special options and I did the dungeon for the first time when this happened to me. I believe I did this at the normal level for this dungeon too. So by your definition, did I do this dungeon unsynched thus no XP was given?

I did a library run and the healer died with about 20% left. As the tank I of course as a natural reaction did everything I could do to win the fight without a healer. I end up finally dead with the boss at about 2%, the dps finish it off and I get no exp. Moral of the story, if someone critical like the healer dies and you think it's going to be close, WIPE the party. Do not put in the extra effort to still win. It's not worth the exp loss when that is the only reason you are there.
