It would be slow and silly to translate every Q and A into 3 other languages each time, we'd of got about 1/5th the information we did lol.

Best part is, people complained about the "on air" translators on Twitter during the Vanafest because it was "slower than what the dev team were saying", even, iirc it was Bayo saying that they realize they're a bit slow in posting the info but it's not an easy thing to do.

I was all happy and stuff about the patch coming out today until I came into this burning house... It's just a video and the translated QA are already posted, so let's just let this one pass and move on. Honostly most people need to cool down without having a high blood pressure over a small simple thing.

Japanese companies always talk in their language with translation later, as English companies with their language and so on. It's a bit hard at their stand point to have translators translate in different language which might take 5-15secs to post it under caption in the video, which be very stupid with that lag time from voice to caption. I think it's a good move for them to post it in Twitter.

Right, so by your logic, SE was doing the right thing in making their interview Japanese, because their audience is 99%

I wasn't aware that 99% of the people who follow FFXIV were Japanese. I'm curious where do you come up with this statistic.

Does not contain the words translation, translate, English, or Japanese. However hindsight sure is convenient, too bad you couldn't have enlightened the many people who speculated there would be translation provided in the hours and days leading up to the letter (on a thread which Bayonne responded to multiple times).

Nah, because I've watched E3 streams before, none of them were translated into Japanese by the big western sites. Heck none of them were even streamed in Spanish given the huge Latino population in the US. None had subtitles, but they did have transcripts (much like SE did with Twitter) in a different language.

Again, it's common sense that the stream would be in Japanese, much like if Blizzard says they're going to stream something regarding WoW do you automatically assume it will be in Swedish? Or would it make more sense that their stream is in English given their Dev team is English..?

It is funny you mention that because I actually rarely play games developed in America (I don't like the direction the mainstream American gaming industry has taken recently); and my second favorite development studio after Square Enix (due to FFXI and FFXIV) is Paradox Interactive a Swedish company.

I have never seen them post official information in English about an interview that was going to be in Swedish without providing information on how to obtain a translation. That would simply be confusing for their customers. I have never seen Square Enix do this either. I have never seen any company, ever, do this. Care to give me an example of a company that does this (I won't limit you to gaming companies)?

I'm well aware that Yoshi doesn't speak English regularly, and I wasn't expecting him to speak English here. However information on the translation would have been nice to know. Had I known that translation would only be given via sporadic twitter updates I would have saved my time and waited for others in the community to compile them. All of this would have been averted if they had simply given us information about the translation. I do not think that was too much to ask of them.
