I lurk these forums all the time, but because of that one-time password, it's usually an inconvenience for me actually to log in and say anything. But this morning, I felt I needed to. For my health. Because I'm really really really irritated with SE.
When I woke up this morning and zombie-walked to the coffee maker, it occurred to me that I was excited for this interview the same way I used to get excited for Christmas. Square-Enix, in all their wisdom (I thought without the least hint of sarcasm), had created a major event for the FFXIV fans to enjoy out-of-game. They were working hard to create a buzz, and that has to start with the core players before it can brim over to the general public. Wow! What a plan!
So there we all are, sitting in our pajamas drinking our coffees, many of us having had only a few hours of sleep, *wanting* to be a part of this, excited to help recreate a buzz for this game; we, the most derided, the most loyal video-game fans in the world, are sitting in our pajamas watching a couple of middle-aged buffoons try to work a camcorder in what appears to be a break room while tripping over one another with social niceties. "Hai!" "Hai!" "Hai!" Hai!" No, I said hai first! No, *I* said hai first! NO I DID! Well, thanks for being so polite, fellas. You woke an entire nation of gamers to gibber at us incoherently without a translator. Another brilliant marketing stunt from SE. And I don't doubt it'll create a buzz--but it will stop with us fans, die on these forums by next week, and never brim out to the public. It will become one more joke at stupid, backwards, pin-headed Square-Enix's expense.
As I type this summa of rage I hear their inane chatter in the background, and that spurs me on. At this point, I am beyond political correctness. Hai, I do not care if you dub me troll. I guess I am trolling you. But, gosh dammit, don't you see--in trolling you, I troll myself; for FFXIV makes two fans as one fan-flesh. I want this stupid, bugged, noisy, flim-flam game to succeed just as much as you do! But what do I get out of this relationship except a pain in my as$? Why the heck did they wake us up? I don't use twitter! I don't want to read the translations! I didn't wake up for a live interview just to read the transcript after the fact. This should have been a professional interview with a live translator, just as there would be at some political meeting. It's just Laurel and Hardy bowing at each other in a broom closet!

Excuse me while I go hemorrhage. And moving onto something completely different, Mr. Yoshida certainly has a deep voice.
B!tch, moan, complain, defend, troll, flame--but whatever you do, this unchecked aggression from SE must not stand! Let's make some more noise! Let's tell them, with one joined voice, that we WILL NOT BE AWAKENED UNDULY!
