Tell that to the majority of the DPS playing this game. In all honesty though, I'd much rather teach/carry a bad/new DPS through an instance than a bad/new tank or healer. If a DPS dies to something dumb, you can just res them. In some fights you can just leave them. If a DPS is dead, the worst that happens (aside from not meeting DPS checks, which is a moot point if you're talking about carrying someone through an encounter) is that your tanks and/or healers have to handle mechanics, which I assure you many of us are more than capable of doing.
I really hate to be the one to break it to ya, but while good DPS may be somewhat rare, DPS in general are a dime a dozen. When a DPS threatens to leave a dungeon if I don't do things their way, I laugh in their face and tell them to enjoy their 30 minute lockout because there's 20 more just like them waiting in the JIP queue. It's a combination of the fact that there's more DPS classes than anything else, plus the fact that people in general don't want the perceived responsibility that comes with tanking and/or healing. People in general are lazy, lazy creatures.Ask yourself: have you earned the privilege to DPS today? Have you healed successfully, and kept/got every one up? Did you tank it like a champ, and made a chump of the boss? Yes? Good. Then you have earned the right to try your hand at the highly coveted role of DPS!
You act like tanks and healers don't have damage rotations. They aren't exactly specific to DPS jobs.Since you have either played a critical supporting role, or you were the main attraction, then ... you likely would have learned how to use your skills to their fullest, but equally as important, also learned the mechanics of the fight (as in, when to use what and how). Furthermore, you likely would have been accomplished enough with your ultra-sneaky super-ninja button-mashing '-no-jutsu' skills ... to discover the awesome magical world of ... *gasp* ...rotations. Wheeeee... :P Yay! High-five for "rotations!"They are SUPER Effective for DDers btw.
