I agree that content is cleared with gear and experience. However it doesn't say much for the above mentioned. 500dps is not acceptable as a DD. Not at this level.I hate DPS checks too but when they first come out they are kinda requiring more skill from player at his class than some other mechanics. Problem with DPS checks is that after some time (when new gear is introduced) they dissappear. Only way to keep them up to date is syncing.
Nothing required more focus on my rotation from me and timing than a DPS check. Combined with mechanics it becomes a hard content (A savage = combination of DPS check and mechanics).

I am also finding that the DPS check requirements are making fights less fun.
I was just talking to a friend about the way that our tanks in FFXIV are so weak.
In other games if you have a great tank and a great healer then you have excellent survivability and you can still win a fight with lower DPS.
However in FFXIV that means absolutely nothing because the focus of every single fight is DPS. Even though this is the case; there is no automatic reset of cool downs after a fail. So those abilities you so desperately need are not available for another few minutes (including potion cool down) after a wipe.
I'm looking at you Faust! (Alex Extreme)
Forcing a Healer to DPS because it is a requirement of the fight just sounds ridiculous. If you want to DPS as a healer then by all means, go for it. Its a privilege for a well oiled group to have extra time to do such a thing.
Others might feel differently but to me; Healer DPS should be more of a reward because the whole group are doing a good job, not a requirement.

Add those to your friends list who can routinely do over 700. Over time you will accumulate a pool of like minded individuals who can complete content. Problem solved.

I usually do point it out to them, if there is someone vastly underperforming and it gets to be a problem. I'm just not rude about it.
Even lines like "Sorry X, I don't think your dps is quite up to par on this content yet. Sadly, I think we have to replace you to clear this. I would advice practicing ideal rotations and/or gearing more for the next time. Thanks for joining." is enough for most people to not throw a fit about how some group did not carry them through a fit. They usually take it cool. Then again, if I said "gtfo scrub u sux we dead cos of uuuuu", the responde would of course be different.
You can boot out people. Just don't be a prick.
I've stopped pointing out bad DPS since I got a Monk who was spamming Bootshine over and over, politely told him an optimal rotation to use, and got called an elitist and said I was going to be reported in doing so. He ended up ragequitting the dungeon saying "I'll play how I want. You don't pay for my sub." Keep in mind, this was in Sastasha Hard.
Since then, I don't waste my breath. Some players are salvageable and will listen when you point out their weaknesses, and strive to do better, but others will just pull the "You don't pay for my sub" card as the above example and do whatever they want. I just wish Square Enix would stop coddling the latter so much.

Wow impressive run that broke two misconceptions I had. 1) they did a 4-4 split for phase one destroying it in two goes 2) they missed a dk once in phase 3 but still managed to clear. I was under the impression that missing dk even once in phase 3 was an automatic fail. Could've sworn ive failed before with a single miss. Thanks for the link! I might try out those tactics when I go back to help ppl clear but I'm pretty sure they'll all say "no you have to kill in one go!"
It's easy to spot a bad tank if mobs are running all over the place. It's easy to spot a bad healer when the party keeps eating dirt. It's also not difficult for the player that is underperforming on those roles to see that they underperforming because of the obviousness of it. No-one would have any issues with removing those players if they are unwilling to improve. There is visual feedback showing they are failing. That's not the case with DPS. Especially when the player thinks they are performing as they should/could be. There is no actual feedback showing it is that player that is underperforming. Parsers will put all 3 roles at the same level of accountability.
Well to be fair the first 2 weeks of Alex savage is being done at the bare minimum Ilvl for it. Like doing First coil in ilvl 60. Doable but very tight. After the next reset and the ilvl 200 weapons start to distribute the Faust DPS check will become a lot easier. ATM we drop it between 10-15 seconds before enrage after gearing up this week with more ilvl 190 gear from Alex normal. Next week, will be noticeably faster.
I think there are far too many "dps check" mechanics and not enough skill/learning based mechanics.Well to be fair the first 2 weeks of Alex savage is being done at the bare minimum Ilvl for it. It currently gates a lot of groups that may be tactically better than other groups with higher dps from clearing, but also once people over-gear the fights will be far too easy.
I also thinks it's crazy to have such tight dps checks and no official way for knowing your dps...
Bismarck Ex...Complex?! Are you kidding me? It's one of the most straightforward, simple fights in the whole game!you try being a dps, bruh. its not as easy as it is to complain about it.
Think about why its difficult: healers and tanks have one other to be synergistic with. DPS have three others. Three other completely different mindsets, playstyles, approaches, and experiences. This is also part of the reason why FC/static groups move forward more than PUGs. They are used to each other and the way they think. BIS EX is so much more than a cookie cutter instruction and is very often overlooked on its complexity.
