Beyond having instant cast (because my problem really is not standing still, it's how the cast times get in the way of how bard was designed in 2.0, such as watching for SS procs and bloodletter resets), they're both conceptually the same. Watch for DoTs, watch for procs and use oGCD when it's available. Ammo's use is only justified on 2 abilities (3 if we're counting reassembled clean shot) and is incredibly streamed line. As a bard, I can't catch my skill procs unless I delay my next weaponskill beyond the 2.5 GCD, and I'll either have to delay my next weaponskill (from doubling up oGCDs) or delaying bloodletter if a reset occurs during empyreal arrow or right after another oGCD. Both classes watch out for random procs, but I can only reflexively react to them on machinist.
