    What Squeenix is Doing Right with PvP

    There's a lot to be desired for PvP, don't get me wrong. This thread is intended for what you **wouldn't** want changed about PvP. What is Squeenix doing right in this scenario?


    ++++ Giving 20 top-tier tomes for EVERY L60 Frontlines, even without daily bonus. This is a massive help to catch up. THANK YOU!!!

    + Keeping additional stat bonuses out of Frontlines. Skill in understanding your job should be the forefront of PvP, not stat advantages.

    + Keeping the ilvl low. It keeps one-on-one fights fair.

    + Marking players on a rampage. It helps identify what parties are organized.

    + Seeing where the opponents are within range, especially in multi-platform areas where the camera has trouble looking up.

    Post what you think they're doing right and upvote what you like.

    Tomes from pvp is not something they are doing right with pvp, it has absolutely nothing to do with pvp

    It's incentive to play. Gets people who may not have tried it, to try it.

    The problem is that more incentive it needed.

    We don't need more incentive. We need more accessibility. People will play PVP if they can play PVP. The problem is, I want to be part of this PVP playerbase in PVP. But my current queue is at 55 minutes. I've been subbed since launch and I rarely PVP except when new modes are released because of the flawed queuing system. Consequently, it takes me (and many others) out of the PVP population which makes queues even worse. It's self-imploding.

    PVP is fun when you can play PVP. That is what causes PVP to flourish. But sitting in queues for 30+ minutes is not fun.

    As for what they did right, the whole system outside the queues is pretty good. In theory, it would be awesome if queues and accessibility didn't mess it up for everyone.

    Give more people incentive, then more people will play, and que times will better.

    No amount of incentive will overcome the queue issues. There are core, fundamental issues with the queuing system.

    #1) Having factional based PVP, the factions are always at the mercy of the least queuing faction.
    #2) All objective-based PVP modes are large scale requiring 24 on each side. In order to downgrade to a 8 person per side match, certain criteria must be met over time. This means that in order for smaller matches to pop, queues must be long to begin with.
    #3) Even if smaller matches pop, it does nothing to alleviate #1.
    #4) There is a possibility that rank matching occurs for Frontlines which inflates the queue. There's been several reports of two people queuing at the same time with the same criteria (except a 20 rank difference) and having very different queue experiences.

    But kinda would rather have a smaller pvp match with ACTUAL pvpers vs a random 72 man with PvErs that r here for esto tomes.
    But nope SE likes to do add more incentatives for ppl who play bad as they give u a nice losing bonus.

    If they dropped the Law/Esoterics from Seize, I'd end up doing it a whole lot less.

    Right now I cap Esoterics on Tuesday/Wednesday, and I'm getting Law gear in advance of actually leveling the Jobs. Solely off Seize.

    Drop those rewards? Tuesday/Wednesday and/or Monday get dedicated to capping Esoterics and I end up actually doing the Expert Roulette, all rather than doing Seize. Get a new Lv60 Job? Time to actively farm Law, again, all rather than doing Seize.

    Letting people just do PvP, rather than having to pick between PvE and PvP is absolutely something they're doing right.

    From the very beginning, Frontlines was sold as a casual PvP event, with a mind to get non-PvPers into PvP. That is what it has always been, that is what it is, that is what it always will be.

    The times are a great thing to have, it means I can focus more on pvp than having to run expert roulette etc. The week that seize was added I made enough tomes to i180 my recently leveled pld.

    The problem is, arena-based PVP isn't for everyone. I like small objective-based PVP like CTF. Right now, that is completely missing from PVP in FFXIV. Wolves' Den is fun and I have over 400 matches in there, but not as fun as something objective based, in my opinion.
