    Retainers are very limited in their amounts. When you are leveling on fleece you need more than a few every hour. If we had a hunter/gatherer class maybe they could catch sheep and shear them then turn them loose. Or go out and gather eggs but not kill the bird. Or even trap more dangerous animals for their hides, meat, teeth, etc. People can be Warriors of the Light all they want but they need food, meds, gear etc that people make. You dont expect an artist to be a warrior. Why would you expect your cook to be? We need another way to obtain all the ingredients we need without doing warrior type quests and battles. It is not why a lot of us play the game. Any class that makes me more self sufficient and contributes to my server is a win for me and the game. Just keeping me out of battles has to make some people happy. Who likes to have party members who's only interest is getting it done so they can get to a new area to dig up a rock.

    Maybe 8 retainers are not very limited, moreover, the suggestion will make those mats become valuesless, at that point maybe you will buy from MB as well.
    For some expansive mats, they were designed as ppl requested what "crafters need involve in end game", with that said, the mats are not there for crafters, they are there to make battle classes cannot completely ignore crafting classes.
    By the way, a crafting/gathering is not mandatory but a battle class is mandatory and everyone starts from a battle class, and have to be lv10 (or 15?) to unlock a crafting/gathering job. Therefore, it is logical that playing without "battles" will result in-selfsufficient ^^;
