A dozen topics on DRK's current situation doesn't lie, it is what it is while waiting for fixes. Anyhow, Morpher could work but could it be balanced around stance dancing in combat or would be locked out of changing role in combat? A real hybrid though, i'd play that.Not particularly hard to accomplish if handled with care. You'd pretty much have a Tank whose main focus is actual stance dancing, which, lets be honest here, would be infinitely more interesting than what we currently have, granted that Dark Knight, for example, being the latest tank class to be added to the game, is in fact an interesting class to play as, its final execution is slightly lacking (though that's what balance patches and fixes are for anyway).
I'd like to see one who's emnity burst increases the farther away from a target it is, with a proc or CD buff that would ignore distance gap for x amount of seconds. Damage stance could (Like gauss and Minuet) add cast time and Damage increase to abilities while tank stance can do what tank stance does, perhaps a health increase and Healing received increase like Warriors since Dark's stance imitates Paladin's Shield Oath. A Range Rank as it were. We have Paladins with Fight or Flight, Wars with Unchained + Berzerk, and Dark with Darkside.
as for Magic stats, It was said they don't want to make special sets for one tank, so a modifier would be in place so they could use the same Gear as BLM/SMN. The tank stance could convert Spell Power/Int into parry/dodge (I see this being more of a dodge tank) and multiply Defense. The abilities would run around emnity instead of Damage so the potency would be much lower than DPS casters. The DPS stance would increase Damage output to where a Warrior in Deliverence or a DRK with Darkside and no Grit would be. I would say Pally with Sword Oath but they just don't put out.

Morpher's strengths lied in its abilities to allow a unit to change between monsters on the fly, so it'd make sense to allow you do do so mid combat.

I imagine this tank would have slightly more utility i.e party blocking/support than the PLD but over all less damage since he's basically holding two tonfa shields.
The already said that they were deciding on what the new tank was going to be in the expansion that it was either going to be Dark Knight or Samurai.
So it's most likely that the 4th will be Samurai.
Samurai... Evasion/parry tank that was attempted in xi
Yoshi-P also said one of the reasons DRK was picked over Samurai was that he felt Samurai was more fitting as a DPS. So chances are Samurai will be a DPS and not a tank.
I'd like to see either a DoM Tank (Red Mage maybe) or Viking (Hammer+Shield)
I still say Beastmaster would be a good choice for a tank.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
it could split aggro and damage between itself and the pet. If you need ideas for how it would work fundamentally (I know this is going to get me some flames, but look at the idea first before dismissing it), WoW's Demonology Warlock, at one point in time, was able to tank fairly well if you picked the right glyphs and talents. If we expound upon that idea, we could easily get Beastmaster.
