You snooze, you lose. If you were not sub'd during the event, or did not bother with it, you can't get it. Complaining about that and demanding things be made available is a problem This is because when old event items are made available the following year for in-game curreny, it destorts the value of participating in the original event by devaluing the rewards from that event. Adding such items to the cash show for a non trivial amount ensures that they will only be obtained by players who really want them, and thus the rarity of the reward is maintained, as is the value of participating in seasonal events.

I think putting these things in the cash shop is a good compromise since it preserves the 'value' of the items in-game by not making the items trivial to get, and yet it still allows new players to get some of the more exclusive items from years gone by. The net result is income for SE through FFXIV which helps pay for things such as server upgrades, new data centers and future developement. How is this a problem for anyone?

Fundamentally, if you snooze, you lose.

The "me too" thing needs to go. We need more rare event items instead of things that everyone runs around using.
I agree with this, but I have a smallamount of sympathy for new players as well, so placing a selection of easonal reward items in the cash shop for non trivial prices seems like a good compromise. Clearly the price is right since it is high enough to cause many compalints, but not high enough to prevent those truly interested inan item from purchasing. It's almost a win-win for players who participate in the events becuase the rarity is mostly preserved and SE has additional income to supplement the subscription revenue and finance future expansion/development.
