The "me too" thing needs to go. We need more rare event items instead of things that everyone runs around using.
It's not a "me too" thing. Celebrating holidays with fun outfits is an "everyone too" thing. Imagine going to a Halloween party, and everyone is wearing the same outfit, because that is the only one available that year.

And since the items ARE still available, it sucks to tell newer players that if they want an item they have to spend $5 on it. Wearing cool event items is basically advertising a stupidly priced mogstation. (Although that won't make me take off my ghost costume.)

    Very rarely updating them.
Hehe, I remember when they blew up the park in Stormwind during Cataclysm. That Christmas, Santa Claus's quest marker was at ground zero, and it took a week for them to notice it and patch Santa back to life. Not to mention that we received 2008 Commemorative beer steins three years in a row during Brewfest, and also received 8th Year WoW Anniversary rewards two years in a row.

But the anger at FFXIV is that they deliberately started Realm Reborn with having both new and old content for their events. New quests with new rewards, and old vendors with old rewards. Then, in their clumsy attempt to launch a paid item store, they stripped out the vendors and added the items as $3 and $5 paid services.

There were also people upset that the holiday events after mogstation launched seemed weaker than the previous year. Each holiday had multiple items in the promotional art that were not actual reward items (halloween striped leggings, christmas fur lined gloves, various minions). Also, a majority of the new rewards were housing items, which was salt in a wound for people who have been begging for more housing wards on crowded servers.

Interestingly, the behemoth heir from the 2014 Christmas promotional art is now in the game as a reward for the Ishgard hunts seals. That pretty much proves that the art was planning for event items that weren't ready yet. But they were ready to accept your credit card numbers for those old event items.
