[Feedback, kinda] The character creation restriction - worst experience I've ever had

For future reference, you can get around the 1000 character limit by editing your original post.

As for the character creation issue, it is indeed frustrating. One piece of advice I've seen in these forums is to try early in the morning--like very early, before us "normal" folks are up and playing the game! ;-) Also, be sure to try on a weekday instead of the weekend.

Even though I have my main character and a an alt or two on Diabolos, when I want to create another character just to try out a new race, it's difficult to find a time to get a new character spot on the server. Not all servers have this issue obviously, but I understand that your choice is limited by where your friends are playing.

The other thing I've seen folks advise is that transfers are less restrictive. In other words, you might be able to do a world transfer with the character you've already been playing and get onto your friends' server easier.

Sorry to hear you're having this problem. It's unfortunately not an uncommon one for certain servers. Which server are your friends on?

The way the server restrictions works is just by checking the number of players currently online against some threshold, so trying at odd times of day (like really early in the morning) when fewer people are playing improves your chances quite a bit, though on one or two of the busiest servers even that might not always work. Another option some people use is to start on a different server and then purchase a server transfer onto the one they wanted. It's frustrating to have to pay to bypass a server limitation, but at least that way the automated transfer system is the one rechecking over and over again until it finds a chance to get you in. So even though SE's official stance is that server transfers aren't immune to character creation restrictions, they effectively seem to be.

p.s. The 1000 character limit on the forums is another strange rule. It's only checked when first making a post and not when editing it, so you can get around the limitation by posting a stub, using "Edit Post" and putting in the rest.

Thanks for the kind words. I did manage to finally create a character, but to my misfortune my friends are no longer online.

What world is it btw? Maybe you can find a new bunch of friends while you're waiting!
It took me 15 days of trying every few hours to finally make one on Gilgamesh lol.

Seems to me that if someone recruits you into the game, they SHOULD place you in the same realm/world that person is in. Apparently, it does not. That REALLY should change, it frustrated she who recruited me and me GREATLY. I tried always to get into her world right at the times the new report of which was accepting, that lead me nowhere (I think the one, Excaliber, may be one of the worst ones to get into). While doing this for a week or so, I did see that along around dinner time (EDT) only 3-4 worlds were open, while at the 6-7 AM time, many more were, but never Excaliber.

Was about to give up (I tried a ticket, they wrote back 3 days later saying I had to call, wasted the hour on hold to get no satisfaction at all when I did get as chance to talk to someone) when I caught something about all worlds being open in the few minutes when a "world" maintenance concluded. Poked around for some data and saw it can end up to an hour early from the stated end time, for mine it was 7AM, so I was at my computer at 6AM. 20 mins later (kept trying over and over) BOOM, I see ALL worlds open, called up my saved profile and got right in.

THE trick is to get ready at least an hour beforehand and keep plugging. My bet is that 5 mins after I got in, the restrictions went into effect, so you're trying to hit a very small hole in time...
