    Worthwhile fish?

Hi all. I have just started fishing in this game and I'm wondering what fish have value? I've been trying to sell various grade 1-3 fish for days and nobody is buying. I decided any fish worth 800 gil or less (which seems to be most) I'll convert into alchemy shards, but are there any hot fish I should target or keep to sell? Thanks.

    Hi

I also would like to know if fishing is actually worth it?
I have been fishing for a bit and so far have made maybe 100k profit (plus gil I have gotten from some leves) by just selling fish to NPC.
The reason I am fishing at the moment is because I hope to level culinarian one day (I live in the belief that food will be worth it one day) and also because in 11 fishing was a great way to make money.
But yeah... is there anything in fishing at the moment that makes it worth the time?
    Cheers

Hi, my fishing is 31 so I'd like to share my view about fishing.

Fishing is great if you know where you're gonna send your supplies of fish.
I supported my BF's Alchemy and my Culinary partly by Fishing.

For selling and market demand, I think it might vary from server to server. But on my server, Dart Frog (from spearfishing) sells well and pretty fast. For example, I could put 99 Dart Frogs in my retainer's Bazaar at 2500 gil each and go to sleep, when I wake up it would be all gone. That's easy 250k.

However, price changes a lot depending on the demand and your competitors. Now people start to sell more Dart Frogs so the price dropped to 2000 gil, for example.

You might need to observe the market as well as research about recipe, in order to predict your server's demand.

I also prefer to use my own fish to either level up my craft (by making Shards and Crystals, for example) or make my own food (for both myself and for selling). It is quite tough selling the raw ingredients because if people have their own Gathering class, they would go out and gather for themselves to maximize profits.

However, there are many people out there who do not gather, and thus will still buy your fish. Or sometimes people are in a hurry and want the ingredient NOW, then they would buy instead of going all the way out there to get one item they want. Also, sometimes people who want to spam doing one recipe to level up their craft will find it easier to buy a bulk amount of material from Market Wards. This is when and where you can sell your fish.

    Fish that SHOULD sell fairly easy in raw form are those that either;

    1) Can be turned into Crystals or Shards.

You may want to look at recipe for this, because some fish turns into more profitable Crystals output. Like, for example, Wind Crystal recipe can use either Allagan Snail, Black Ghost, or Rothlyt Oyster, but Allagan Snail recipe only yields 1 Crystal while the rest will yield 2. So, it is more likely that your Black Ghost or Oyster would sell better.

Another factor that will influence your sell is whether there are many crafters that are in that range of level and are looking for such ingredients to get their EXP or not. So if you think there are many low level Alchemist trying to get EXP from using fish to turn into Shards, you might want to look for a fish that no one is selling, or less people are selling.

    2) Is used in any of the Alchemy recipe, especially Glue recipes.
Fish like Dark Bass tends to sell well because people want Fish Glue. I would think +3 Dark Bass would also sell very well because sometimes people want HQ glue to attempt HQ gear.

Some other fish or water creatures are used in non-glue non-crystal recipe for Alchemist as well. If you want to sell for this purpose, look for recipe where there's a follow-up recipe. Dart Frog for ALC40 recipe, for example. It is for Disabling Powder, which then can be turned into Disabling Potion. So the crafter can use the frog to make one thing, then turn the result into yet another result. People will be more willing to buy this kind of material because it can help them continue their training. For lower levels (ALC21-30), you might want to look into Black Scorpion market on your server and see how it is.

    3) Is used in popular food recipe.
This tends to sell even better than Glue fish, because food effect only stays for 30 mins, so people will have to keep eating more. But which fish is more popular will still depend on your server. On my server, Ash Tuna sells well at about 1700g - 2000 gil because Tuna Miq'abob is popular. 1 Ash Tuna is needed to make 6 kabobs. Tuna Miq'abob is about 3500 g on my server. So the cook will still profit more than fisher. But yeah, if you can't cook, selling fish for other cooks can be your regular source of income.
