Question About Black Mage

Hello, I recently got my Thaumaturge to level 30 as well as an archer to level 15. My archer is on a different server than my Thaumaturge, and I can't find the quest on my Thaumaturge to become a black mage. My question is, does my archer have to be on the same server as my thaumaturge in order to get the quest to become a black mage, or did I just miss a quest?

You have to have archer to 15 on the same character.

You need to get your thaumaturge to 30 and do every THM quest
Then you need to get ARC to 15 on the same exact character
Not on another server, not the same server, the very same character
Then you can find the BLM quest in the THM guild

Yes and you will want to level archer for both Quelling and Raging strikes, both skills are must have if you want blm to be at it's full potential. I know that was not the question but figured i would post anyhow
Also yes you can have every single class/job on 1 character, though inventory management becomes big issues, lol

It's no prob. You go to the class guild (for instance the Archer's guild) and speak with their Guildmaster. They will give you the first quest and a level 1 weapon for that class. Equiping that weapon will change you into that class. That is essentially how you switch classes on the same character.

Later when you unlock black mage you will be given the BLM soul crystal. While on Thaumaturge, you will equip the soul crystal and become a black mage. Think of BLM as an extension of THM, because your BLM will always be the same level as THM and vice versa, but BLM will give you access to more skills and also have bonus intelligence.

Btw, in your character menu above your equipment section you should see a little button with an icon that looks like a page of paper. Those are your gear sets. You can create a gear set for each job which will make switching between them much faster because all you need to do is click on the set and select equip. Alternatively you can drag the set onto a skill bar and activate it that way.
