Chat Log Bug?

I play in windowed mode because of the obvious FS problems but when switching back to FFXIV from say IE, I have been having problems with the chat log. I cannot send any chat messages or change between shout/tell etc. I cannot even use the mouse wheel to scroll through my inventory or through the synthesis window as it will just zoom out instead. Quitting FXIV will fix it but its really annoying because its happening more and more. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a way I can fix it? Thanks

If you were solo when the issue occurred, please write "Solo". If you were in a party, please write "Party". With alliance, please write "Alliance."
*If you wrote "Party" or "Alliance", please also include the number of members.

NPC Name:
Name of NPC that your character was interacting with when the issue occurred.
*If you were not interacting with any NPC, then please write "None".

Monster Name:
Name of monster that your character was battling against when the issue occurred.
*If you were not battling against any monster, then please write "None".

In-Game Time:
Please list the in-game time that the issue occurred.

Steps:
Detailed steps on how the issue occurred.

Date & Time: Ongoing for the last 2 weeks or so. Last occasion around 2.00pm GMT+1

Class/Skill Rank: BSM/24, GSM/24, WVR/50
Physical Level: 50
Area and Coordinates: Numerous. Ul'dah (6,3) LL Maelstrol Command (1,1), LL MSN Guild (7,7) and others
Party or Solo: Solo
NPC Name: None
Monster Name: None
In-Game Time: Can't remember but has happened numerous occasions at different times
Steps:
1. Synthesis
2. Alt+Tab to Internet Explorer/Chrome to check recipes etc.
3. Return to FFXIV
4. Sometimes when writing in chatlog, cannot hit enter to send the chat. Cannot change between /shout, /tell etc. Cannot scroll through inventory/synthesis window. "Home" does not bring up the menu. These are just what I've noticed there may be more.
5. Log out and quit FFXIV and restart to fix.
