    I'm on a poorly ventilated Alienware X51 R2.

The upgrade went fine for me. A part from it resetting my audio settings, and Alien Audio not working because DELL not updating their crap, nothing going straight to the Realtek Audio driver config didn't fix - I turned off all the "audio effects"; never liked that rubbish.

Other than having to do long defrags due to the upgrade rearranging a ton of files - I'm a neat freak like that. It has been smooth sailing.

FFXIV (DX11) runs fine. No problems here. Frame rates are a tiny bit better although that might just be the placebo effect.

From my point of view, it's pretty much Win 8.2 - a more polished Win 8.1. Don't really see any huge performance gains.

    1. Right at the release time

    2. No issues

    3. Runs great, still the same 70-90FPS

    4. None

    5. Horrible, OS is slow and chunky. Takes 1.30-2 mins to boot to the login, where 8.1 would take 10 seconds to land me on the login screen, everything has delays, opening start menu takes 2-3 secs, every app takes 2-3 secs to start, even the calculator. 8.1 was everything instant 99% of the time. Reverting back to 8.1 today.

    6. Did a clean install from the start, nothing saved, format etc etc.

And i know its not my system. 8.1 ran perfectly flawless. If anything it feels like a downgrade to 7 again, with XP boot times.

    For future reference: i7-4790@4.0Ghz; 8GB 1600MHz; GTX960; 2x500GB 7200RPM HDD

The problem will be not with your system hardware but the software itself. I deployed Windows 10 to all employee computers today at work, still waiting on some of them to get back to me on whether it finished or not, but it is lunch time.

Only one so far had to be re-installed as clean, and as it turned out it was the Bit Defender antivirus on the system causing lockups. Windows Defender is on by default after the upgrade and it may conflict with an antivirus on your system. You should try disabling or uninstalling any antivirus programs before the upgrade. Then reinstall after.

Did you defrag after the upgrade?

No need to defrag after formatting, there's just a bunch of nothing to re-organize

While it wouldn't affect the 1st boot after install, the first boot will be the time Windows is installing and updating drivers from Windows Update. After i installed, i watch as Windows Explorer (For those that don't know explorer.exe is what gives you your desktop interface) kept restarting over and over. Then upon investigation found it was installing video and motherboard drivers. After about 20 minutes it was finished and the subsequent boots went much faster.

And for those complaining about the "auto updates" In the "Search the web and Windows" bar at the bottom type "Windows Update" Choose advanced settings from the search result and disable them there. If you feel that is not enough let me know and i can point you to the registry edit that completely disables all updates and the interface for them.

    @Asteria,

You can delay automatic updates at least with any version*but* home.

There is no turning them off, or manual like before. Not if you want to keep security updates, because they will shut yours off eventually.

Yes, my PC gives me a black screen for duration and I keep thinking it's not gonna load but it loads. On the Surface 3 Pro, its fine which I find weird. And PC is a bit overkill.

No don't plan to since Windows 10 is still new and young so there are bound to be issues this early in the system's life.
