I'm still waiting to buy 2 copies of windows 10 (need to get paid first). I don't do OS "upgrades" fresh install or bust. I discovered first hand how bad OS upgrades are when I went from windows 98 to XP. My system didn't run anywhere near as well back then. After some research and over a decade of computer knowledge since then, I can safely say you need to do a fresh install usually. Format HDD and install OS fresh. Less problems and takes less time to set up too.

there is an option in windows 10 to refresh the system as though its a clean install so waiting to buy a full license if your system qualifies is not necessary. it's a pretty cool feature I wish windows 7 had
it's under "update & security"--->recovery, the option is called "reset this PC" in the options it lets you choose to "remove everything", then another page will appear and you choose "Remove files and clean the drive"
a warning to any of you thinking of using this, it will remove the option for you to downgrade back to windows 7
so if you decide you want to use windows 7 again you will have to reinstall it

also I hate to burst your bubble there but with the clean install of windows 10 vs the upgrade it doesnt actually take less time. I'm certain of this having installed it both ways.

Switch from 98 to XP happened like what, 13 years ago? Wouldn't one think the people doing this stuff got better by now?

I did an upgrade on 2 machines now, one from 8.1, the other from 7. Both run perfectly fine and better than the prior system did.

Also you can do a clean install without buying the copies, if you own Win7 or Win8. Just get the ISO from MS and use your existing product keys.

Two options here for getting the free copy and doing a clean install. Here's a third. Do the upgrade, search for Magic Jelly Bean. Run that and it will show you your Win 10 CD key. Copy it down then do a clean install with that key. Though honestly, the option to do a reset is easier, but I personally also like having the key somewhere I can find it.

For people having slow down (e.g. long boot times) with Windows 10, make sure you:
    1. Defrag after the upgrade. A lot of files got change/overwritten, created and deleted.
    2. Update your drivers. No Windows doesn't upgrade all of them for you. For OEMs like Dell, their support site (with scanning tool) helpfully compiles all the drivers that need upgrading for you.

I installed a new SSD (upgraded from a 256 to a 512 in size), clean install of Windows 10, I installed FFXIV, Steam, Chrome all on July 29th.

I have been running FFXIV with no issues in DX11 mode.
The only issues I do have stem from the fact my ISP is Verizon FIOS so I get network lag in instances constantly. This issue occurred when I was running Windows 7 previously as well.

One thing that helped for me is to turn off fast startup as I found it to be slower due to my slow hdd.

    1. Did you upgrade after the release of Windows 10? (Jul 29th)

    2. Did the game start with zero issues?

    3. Running DX11 version of the game just fine?

    4. Noticeable changes? (Game wise)

    5. Personal experience you would like to share about it? (Windows 10 / FFXIV with W10)

Edit: 6. Did you follow up with a clean install after the upgrade?

    Thank you for your time!

    Yes, on Jul 29th

    2. Did the game start with zero issues?
    No issues for me.

    3. Running DX11 version of the game just fine?
Started perfectly and it's running with 5-10 more FPS depending if on battery or not.

    4. Noticeable changes? (Game wise)
Not much in FFXIV. I get triple FPS in LoL though.

    5. Personal experience you would like to share about it? (Windows 10 / FFXIV with W10)
I did a normal upgrade without clean install or wipe and it was REALLY slow at booting up for the first 2 days. It would take about 3 minutes at least from pressing the on button to just log into my computer, and 5 minutes total just to open anything on the desktop. This went away after a few days.

Edit: 6. Did you follow up with a clean install after the upgrade?
Was thinking about it cuz of how slow it was, but then it fixed itself.

EDIT: Also my hard drive is only 3% fragmented according to the built-in defragger, and all my drivers updated automatically besides my video driver, which I had to install manually and re-install GeForce Experience to have them work correctly.
