    Analyzing Performance?

Newb here, just finished my opening free game time (about 22 days worth, had issues at the beginning, now it's paid time). Have been greatly aided because I've been playing the "other" MMORPG for a few years now, so many things MMO are familiar to me. Even managed to catch 4 Player commendations in dungeons!

For such kinds of content (battle) I am used to seeing a damage meter during the fights, but more importantly, the ability to actually analyze stuff vis the combat log breakdowns/parses being hosted by various sites (for the newest one, I participated in the closed alpha stage).

So while I am a long ways from lvl cap raiding/dungeons, I went looking for some form of damage meter or logs that could be analyzed... and hit mostly a dead end. The only thing I came across was some app than only ran in m$ (which I do not use) that had a real-time DPS meter of sorts (it ran separately from the game so one had to tab out of the game to even see it). BUT I also know that without some form of log to parse, it seems awfully hard to be able to judge where I did good or bad. I know there are a lot of things tied into the mechanics of various fights that may mean one DPS doesn't seem to put up the numbers expected... for those familiar with wow, there was a night of many wipes on Tectus where I was singled out for not performing well enough... BUT the log analysis showed I was getting hit with Crystalline Barrage 6-10 times each pull (a 20 sec. debuff where you have to run away from everyone else and leave a trail behind that won't impact everyone else's positioning, so ya head to the edge of the playing field)!

ARE there any options to even get close to what I'd like to see?

Well, this is a tricky question to answer on the official forums because, officially, parsers are not allowed. However, there's a sort of don't-ask-don't-tell thing going, where SE doesn't care that much as long as you aren't harassing other players.

There is a parser that can do things like graph a 30s rolling average (or whatever time period you prefer), and can display an overlay so you can monitor your DPS in real time. I would ask this question on reddit or another place so it can be answered more completely.

In fights with mechanics, the data definitely needs to be put in context, and RNG selecting you for mechanics often can lead to lower DPS. You can still monitor where it was before/after mechanic but when looking at the whole encounter, yes, your raid team does need to acknowledge when someone had a bit less uptime because of it. The encounters are tracked and logged very thoroughly, but the programs do sometimes make you go digging for the info.
