Tier IV materias

For crafting (and possible gathering) equipment it seems the left side has a fairly high chance to give tier IV(75%~ or higher), and an uncommon chance at tier III.

On the other hand accessories and tools seem to have an incredibly low chance at tier IV, and even a moderate chance to give tier II. (yes, tier II materias, even from level 60-59 tools)


So for anyone looking to save gil and spiritbond their own materias I would advise to only spirit bond the leftside items. Tools and accessories arent good for tier IVs at all.

I noticed this too.. something seems a bit wonky tbh. I had been SB the 53-56 stuff and was getting about half IV/half III so I figured going up a "tier" would be better. Nope. I get a lot less IV with chimerical/serpent/holy chestnut than I did with ramie/dhamel/holy cedar so yeah... going back to the lower level stuff.

I converted the level 55 set I had been using while leveling once I was at 60 on everything and got pretty much all IVs. Then I made another set (including accessories, less rings because yay dual Meteor Survivor Rings) and got IIIs from all of them, level 59 belt included. Considering going to the chimerical stuff but from the sound of it those aren't getting IVs any more reliably, so I'll likely stick to the 55 stuff.

It's really annoying that we've moved to the point where most of the gear requires multiple IVs to cap and there's another tier higher than them and yet the game is still treating IVs like this super special thing that you aren't supposed to be able to get reliably.

Its because the next tier up is SO SUPER SPECIAL that the only way to get it is by playing the material lottery with Mutamix.

Crafting gear from Moghome cost about 12-16kish? I've gotten about 75% IV after 100 of those. I might just be lucky. Don't bother converting chimeric; they give mostly II.

The moogles are kind souls after all! I knew we did all their search quests for a reason.


But it's a shame that with 300 crafts required to 100% bond (a double melded item) the crystal cost is almost as much as the materia prices.


I would add to the OP and say that it's probably best to spiritbond the leftside via gathering only; assuming you have the stats to off set the gathering stats you are losing.

When farming favors would be the best time.
