She's only evil because she has better Triple Triad cards than you and beats you down with lolroulette/random rules.

3.55 spoilers. Tataru reveals herself as the reincarnation of Zodiark that the Asians have been trying to resurrect this whole time. She then morphs into a giant evil lala with tails and ears and tentacles and proceeds to do M rated things to the WoL, Alphinaud, and Y'Shtola.
Please look forward to it.
for the last time, Scions Financial Books =/= Crystal braves financial books. The Scions were going broke forcing tataru to do odd jobs to keep funding up. the Crystal Braves are not and were never tied to scion's financial concerns. it was Alphinaud's dream that was corrupted and shattered by Teledji.
Okay then. that's what I'll do. I'll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgement. All these people who's ancestors devoted themselves to you, sacrificed themselves to you. Can you hear them singing?
I don't know why people are so insistent that Tataru is evil. Why would she be? What does she gain from going against the Scions and Warrior of Light? What is her goal? And can you really base it all on some quirky smile?
Which is exactly what I was getting at. We're being told a story through a medium that is quite expensive and takes up time and resources. If it isn't relevant to the story, then why spend those resources to keep placing these odd little inconsistencies when they could be going into some other part of the game's design. It doesn't mean that Tataru is automatically evil, they could end up taking things in a completely different direction with her, but at the same time it's not impossible. The theory itself might not end up being accurate but I doubt people are reading too much into details.
If you want to go down that track, why is there anything in the game not devoted to advancing something? There are a lot of superfluous elements, such as purely vanity items, unused areas, models, junk items, etc. A couple lines of dialogue is far from the most wasteful thing they can spend resources on.Which is exactly what I was getting at. Is it possible Tataru isn't who she seems to be? Of course it is. But that's Ancient Aliens logic, which doesn't run on evidence - and without evidence, your argument has no standing.
An offhanded comment and a smile do not constitute foreshadowing foul play on Tataru's part.

"There is no hope in stubbornly clinging to the past. It is our duty to face the future and march onward, not retreat inward." -Sovetsky Soyuz, Azur Lane: Snowrealm Peregrination
As someone who watches a lot of anime, I just thought she was doing that "The one loyal friend who will always believe in you turns around and smiles at you when you part ways to assure the audience that they're a loyal friend who will always believe in you" smile. It happens all the time. Potential love interests or just those friends who have complete faith in the protagonist usually do that smile.
If anything, I thought Tataru just triggered a death flag for herself with that smile because she was one of the constant things that (I assume) the WoL appreciated as part of the job, and it would have been really tragic if she was taken away from his/her life. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out she survived at the end of 2.55.
The girl hangs out with the WoL... and in my time wearing that hat, I've killed at least two Chimera... one in Cutter's Cry, and one in the Relic Reborn questline. We know Tataru has DoL classes; she may have gone out and skinned the carcasses after I was done, thinking that she'd surely find some use for the skin!
I still like the idea of Wedge fighting a Chimera with a Magoteck Cannon to win her affections. lolThe girl hangs out with the WoL... and in my time wearing that hat, I've killed at least two Chimera... one in Cutter's Cry, and one in the Relic Reborn questline.
