I could see unique gear customization if they made no gear for what ever comes after eso if they'd let us instead upgrade our AF2 the rest of 3.0 let us use matirea to enhance them it can also solve the gear space issue since wed be building that up and improving it with the next tomestone stuff.

A person can dream right. On that note why is there no gear with reduce or increase hate?

I don't agree with this exactly. While nostalgia does exist it doesn't stop SE from actually implementing the designs used before in a successful way. Consider that designs such as Crystal Tower, World of Darkness, Golden Saucer and Triple Triad were brought from other FF games and adapted to the "FF14 Edition".

I liked Abyssea, Sky, and Sea. I also liked traveling back in time via Maws.

Time travel to before the Calamity. Like, use the current ARR zones, but make them look like they should've been like in 1.0 before there was great destruction. That way we could experience new events that had happened in the past before the city-states had to reunite again after the Calamity.

    Because it serves no purpose.

I suggested this to Koji Fox in person, he was turned off from the idea of having players running around the 1.0 maps though due to how messy he thought they were. Any time travel is likely to go much further back than that era if at all.

FFXIV is an optimized MMO, similar to how FFXIII is an optimized JRPG, and Diablo 3 is an optimized ARPG. The team look at the data for how the majority of players play and built a game that targets that style. What people call "dumbing down" is in reality a reflection of actual game play. We have certain design decisions, like strict roles and no customization in skills because those reflect reality. However, we get high quality content very quickly, and probably the best story of any MMO. These are conscious design decisions made by the team.

The biggest and really only reason gear with unique stats worked was because FFXI let you gear swap midbattle. If you can do that, you can make gear sets for each action, so if a piece wasn't best overall, it might still have a niche use with a specific action.

FFXI was more fluid with roles, but that's not what influenced gear choices. If we could swap midbattle, you'd see more BLMs and SMNs with MND gear or LNCs in tank plate.

    I still miss it.

Some things from XI that I think would be able to translate into XIV?

Nyzul Isle (after all they were 'randomized' instanced zones much like dungeons in this game minus the randomized bit, but even if its not Nyzul Isle I would like to see some kind of multi-level randomized set of dungeons that is both objective based and combat based like Nyzul Isle was)

Dynamis (maybe not nightmare/dream zones of the cities but rather the idea of Dynamis, where a large group of people go together into a world that is locked behind a timer and the items inside the dungeon are used to make some AMAZING weapon/gear that stays relevant for more than a patch cycle; maybe make it the best weapon per expansion kind of thing but make it take a decent amount of time to work towards, kinda of like the Zodiac Weapon in 2.XX series but less fetching all over the place and more group interaction. I don't know, it could work though)

Gear-swapping (my god let me gear swap again, I loved this aspect of XI, however now I have no use for macros besides having ways to ASCII shame bad players)

Reputation System (we kind of have it with the Beastmen quests however, I would like to have a full-fledged reputation system where stuff you sell, sells for more with higher Reputation and stuff you buy is cheaper if your Reputation is higher, etc etc. Reputation would be Region based so you would have an Ishgard Reputation, Gridania Reputation, Limsa Reputation, Uldah Reputation. The Rep would increase based on Side Quests (of all manners) completed and MSQ completion as well as GC rank)

Conquest (This one could be easily added if you are unfamiliar with it basically you talked to an NPC to get a buff that lasted for a set duration, while under its effects if you did stuff (kill an exp yielding monster, did a side quest, etc etc) it would add points to your current Nation's Conquest points. At the end of the week the points are tallied among'st all the contributors and the winning Nation received perks based on the zone they conquered. For example, if Gridania conquered Middle La Noscea their vendors in the city would have an expanded catalog to include things native to the area: La Noscean Leeks, Oranges, etc. Also people who were aligned with Gridania would be allowed to teleport to Middle La Noscea at a cheaper rate. It would add some depth to the becomingly shallow Grand Companies. And would fit very well in the revitalization of them (as they [SE] have expressed the want to return to GCs recently))

Open World Mega-Bosses (I'm talking Absolute Virtue, where they are impossible to beat. And only the party/alliance that claimed them can attack the Mega-boss. They need to be painstakingly hard and need to free roam across the world, be aggressive and slaughter anyone who crosses their path. GIVE ME SOMETHING TO FEAR IN THE OPEN WORLD!)

Besieged (Like from XI where a section of the city was attacked by outside forces and players would have to defend it along-side famous heroes. I'm honestly surprised this didn't make its way into the game at launch I mean we have a massive enemy nation trying to invade and yet the game feels like the Garleans just are not interested. I HAVE NO FEAR FROM THE GARLEAN EMPIRE! They are a bunch of dandies, I mean we've basically slaughtered half of their leaders and then some with little to no resistance! If they would at least attack us I would feel like they WANT to invade and conquer. We also have the Beastmen who can easily attack us, I mean they are basically living next door and despite my best efforts to eradicate them they keep reappearing; why do they not attack? Besieged would fit easily into this game and offer ways to get glamour gear or other ways to obtain tomes or Reputation even!)

So that's about it, basically I'd like them to add some more open world stuff. FATES are great and were really unique and hunts brought in one of the more fun things in XII but we are in a new expansion and they really didn't add anything new in terms of the open world experience. I know this is a theme-park game but that should not limit it to lifeless open world stuff. Raids are great but not everyone's cup of tea. And us DPS need something to do while we wait for those 30 minute queue times!
