Oh snap. He's laying truth bombs in a thread for fun. This guy is too hardcore for me.

Horizontal progression i.e. gears with special buffs and stuff. Those were fun.
And exp camping parties. I know we have FATEs but. . . sometimes I just want to stay in one place and let a Ranger pull a crawler towards the group so we can beat on it and get chain exp.

Horizontal progression and some combat system partially inspired by the one in FFXI, only faster and with limit breaks.
Point being, how many mmos were actually out around then with that formula? Not many.
WoW clone ones since 2005 until now? Hundreds. There's a good portion of gamers that are getting sick of every mmo coming out being the same with different graphics. We're looking for some variety rather than a different themepark with the same rides as the last.
Offer teleport service for 500g (per player) ^^;
Boat travel was relaxing

Pretty much this. Content that is large in variety and focuses on more puzzle solving during battle. Nyzul Isle comes to mind here with it's RNG built mazes.
Nearly all content in FFXIV can be reduced to a single linear strategy created from sharing experiences online. It would be refreshing to include dynamically generated content in addition to this due to the puzzle solving engagement that comes with it.
