Making FFXIV less easy adding more difficulty in regular mobs and world content not just adding Savage Alexander and thinking you did the FFXI players a favour.
Make the game and gears rewarding and find the balance the FFXI had that some gears from level 20 where actually good.
Bring THF RDM BLU ASAP since ALOT of the community is requesting this.
I wouldnt mind more FFXI monsters.
More FFXI gearsets would be nice to see here just for the nostalgia.
More bosses on worldmap where you need to proc them to defeat them or proc them to get better drops etc to make stuff more tactical than playing FFXIV Dynasty Warriors button mash reborn LOL
In the recent days of MMOs I've found myself agreeing more and more with gear that could be used at end game, yet still be equipped and found at lower levels. There's too much focus on gathering the best gear at end game, and the entire experience is less about growing a character and enjoying areas at each stage as it is a race to the end, because that is where everything that counts is at.

I'm not really expecting this game to ever have that kind of feature set, so I'm hoping some of the other competing titles coming out soon in the MMO space might adopt this stance. Final Fantasy XIV is okay in short bursts, but man it just isn't Final Fantasy: It's more like some other game wearing a Final Fantasy Costume. I mean, what happened to the game that was heavily influenced by MUDs and Pen and Paper play?

The great thing about 11 is the synergy between open world and "instances". When I say instances I mean this loosely to include battlefields or forced spawns.

In essence, rather than lift a game mode from 11 to 14, the principle should be lifted of farming the open world for items to use to spawn the instanced world.

This was present in version 1 to a degree by farming beastmen strongholds. This kept linkshells socially active and helped to foster the community.

I always like in 11 how zones were functional for the levelling experience but also for higher levels. Parties would be xp'ing, but there would be higher levels coming through to go to force spawn points for things like carby mitts, o-hats etc. That really created a sense of a world rather than the zones we have now which are more akin to levels from a snes game.

Another wider variation would be, again as in version 1, allowing a party to join all their levequests together for a pseudo-open world roaming xp party.

I know negativity is shot down on topics like this, but whenever I think on things i missed from FFXI: Like Skill levels (i.e. "Your Summoner Magic Skill goes up .5"), I have to remind myself of the frustration I went through trying to get friends to play the game with me. Out of 6 friends that all tried the game, 1 stuck around to 75 cap and then on to 99. We all can pine for the old days but, people have spoken by and large that they wanted more content that they could efficiently approach in a group with their friends. Out of those 6 friends, 4 went on to play WoW and get to a higher level than they did in FFXI (because it was accessible) and 1 went on to City of Heroes (because he felt like he was actually a powerful character). While CoH is shut down now (sadface), FFIX ultimately lost out, in the public eye, for those very reasons.

Despite it's immersive world-game philosophy it was not accessible to those who would pick it up and play. I only stuck with it because it was the only online game i could play on my PS2 (i had no computer). I slogged through the deathly quiet zones hearing just my footsteps as I wandered around a zone trying to find my party while praying that they wouldn't suddenly disband. I told myself it was immersive because music only played when I was near civilization (it could make sense lore-wise). I slogged through the questing style where I was told little to nothing about how to complete a quest from the game itself, I had to always pull up a guide at a friend's house and copy the steps down. I slogged through how lonely the game was if you didnt have a linkshell and my only form of communication was joining in on Jeuno shouts. I slogged though staring at the Vermilion Cloak on the AH with my 100k in hand that I had saved up for months on end as crafters were charging 500k+ for the "Good stuff" and telling myself that if I could cut out taking chocobos and airships and teleports for travel then I could save enough money to buy one.

I do miss having a reason to always play, be that farming for XP for levels, farming for XP for Merits, Farming for skill points, waiting for an invite for farm parties, {Gather Together}-ing for story missions, Farming Pop items for BCNMs, wasting key items in fights that people didn't know, and mass-sneaking through tight corridors because no one wanted to fight anything due to how long fights actually took. Actually.... there is little I miss.

    Interesting gear stats.

I think in Yoshi's attempt to keep it safe and "Not fix what isn't broken", he is missing great opportunities for interesting, and more importantly, FUN itemization. Right now it's, frankly, boring and impacts the drive of getting better gear, frankly. Specially as a tank, as we have very little impactful tank stats.

I mean, the little dude survived the WoW-pocalypse against all expectations. It needs a purple heart or something.
Pretty sure WoW is still chuggin along just fine, even if subscriptions have dropped. Back in the day, there just weren't as many choices for MMO's as there are now. The game isn't dying; the market is simply more divided.

SE has already announced they're halting updates for FFXI in late 2015 and closing it down for console users in early 2016. Once they stop updating, it's not so much an MMO as it is an online museum of sorts.

Run 2-3 dungeons for 3 months before new ones are added, or run 1 dungeon for 1-2 years.....

Comparison. Having to clear coil every day with high probability you cannot clear it each day due to RNG out of your control for a year.... Every time RNG gives you the finger, thats another day added. Dynamis wasn't hard, you just zerged it, then pooled your currencices for the lucky one.

I really enjoy my blue mage from FFXI, so I'd like to see something like it in FFXIV. I don't mind fighting monsters for a bit to learn abilities. I went back to FFXI this month but I also play FFXIV from time to time.

I would love to see more options to the companion feature. We have our chocobo and the choco is cool to have and everything. But I'd also like to be able to summon a moogle by my side and customize and fight with that. I would also like to fight alongside with our retainers as well. FFXI has the fellow NPC, so something like that with their own side quest line. I actually think 1.0 had something like that iirc. Now retainers just go down and do their own thing with their own adventures away from the player.

I would say something like trusts, summoning various NPCs in the game to fight alongside you, but I think it's still way too soon to have that in this game yet. Maybe far into the future with low population, then let those appear in dungeons to fight with us.
