FFXIV won't load after windows 10 update

I have been logged in FFXIV all day because i chose to wait to upgrade to windows 10.
After hearing most of my FC speak about the update and how it works perfect with FFXIV I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade. Now I can log into the launcher and click the green play button, the screen goes black like it normally does when loading the main screen then just shuts down, no errors, nothing. It won't start.
My GPU drivers are up to date and my DX is up to date.
    Please can someone help me?

    Many thanks

I'm expierieinceing the same issue. I was able to play earlier, but went to take a break, tried to reload and just black launcher or error: -2146697208

UPDATE: I had to disable Avast! Firewall and restart the computer and things started working again.

I'm not getting any errors, I get the FFXIV mouse pointer as it starts to load main screen then just closes down.

I have managed to get to the point of getting the game to start, I now have the mouse pointer and sound on the main screen but the main screen is black.

To get to this point I went into FFXIV install directory and made the .exe in the boot folder "run as admin".

I feel I am getting closer to getting this to work but I am also stumped as my GPU is up to date. It is possibly a DirectX problem, but I have no idea how to add older DX files to a DX12 win10 as every .exe I download results in windows saying "You have a more recent version"

Anyone can put some technical info my way or a fix?

Hi, was getting error that Media Pack is missing from my computer (Win 10 version of the pack). So i installed it and now game launches fine.
You need the media pack if you are running Windows "N" versions

I have already installed that but I am still having the same problems, now it's even crashing rather then just a black screen with sound.

*UPDATE* I have managed to get FFXIV working again. Game needs to be full screen and run as admin. The main pain about this is since I have two monitors I can no longer fish by ear + controller AND watch youtube/anime on the other screen, as soon as I click outside main screen all sound is lost. I am ok with fishing old school for now but hopefully in August when SE add win 10 support, it will fix windowed mode.

Considering you said "update" i assume you installed Windows 10 over your previous Windows, so no fresh install.

This means that any Software that's not compatible with Windows 10 will cause issues even with Software that's fully compatible with Windows 10, as such you need to close that Software or uninstall it.

The kind Software that can cause issues even with Software that's fully compatible are usually Drivers and Software that monitors other Software, such as Security Software, Real-Time Scanning Software (doesn't need to be Security Related, even FRAPS monitors running processes), basically anything that can monitor and/or change how other Software works.

Then obviously drivers are usually the ones that like to mess things the most, not just Graphic Cards drivers, Audio Drivers, Chipset Drivers etc.

Before uninstalling anything go check the Developers website for updates, check if there are Beta updates, they should include compatibility with Windows 10, however i recommend using Final builds for Security Software.
