I liked the idea of Conquest, but it wouldn't work. There are no level parties like there were in FFXI. Maybe if they put better reasons to go out in the world, it would work. Like, in 2.0, the combination of hunts/atma/leveling would have created a pool of people to actually interact with the conquest system.

They don't have to link it to level parties, they can link it to fates in areas, a certain dungeon you do is in a certain area. Quest that you do in a certain area could all go to your GC points, and when you get GC points you automatically get conquest points.

Such a system implemented in FFXIV would clearly need to have some other criteria than just killing overworld mobs, like FFXI had. Maybe things like doing Grand Company Leves, or something.

The biggest issue in my mind, though, is that I don't feel like any mass-participation event of this kind would work well. What's the biggest gate to players trying to complete hardcore raids in this game? No, it's not being able to do the content - it's finding seven other players who are ALSO able to do the content. Have you ever felt helpless to progress because you just can't find party members able to progress with you? Now, imagine instead of finding seven other people, you instead need to find seven hundred.

That was the biggest problem with Conquest, in my mind, the feeling that nothing you did would have any significant impact on the results. You could work yourself to the bone, and still see another nation come out on top. Or you could do nothing, and see your own nation come out on top. It all depended on what hundreds of other people (the vast majority of which are total strangers who you never even talk to) are doing - and, by and large, those hundreds aren't even thinking about Conquest at all, just going about their daily routine, and the numbers happened to line up one way or another.

I think it can work, they could make it work. I would like more party options in the open world. Something like behest (not Guildhests) I would like to see again. A battlewarden could appear that only a certain amount of players can participate in, spawn a load of FATEs that only those players can see, and they have to work together to complete it?
