    Commitment issues

    Where do I start...

I have played since 1.0 along with 7 good years of FFXI and a bit of WOW as filler. I love this game, I really want it to be the best MMO out there but I just cant seem to commit.

I guess you could say I am casual, I have a few hours a night to play and most of the weekend and I am just finding my time being so wasted on this.

I think the reason I am feeling this is I have realized that HW is just ARR with a new coat of paint, and for the most part that is fine. ARR was great to begin with but there just doesn't seem to be anything NEW. ARR 2.0, hit level cap, do your roulette's, coil, maybe craft / gather. Log off. HW, hit level cap (tedious btw), do your roulette's, Alex, maybe craft / gather. Log off.

Maybe I am just expecting too much, after all in this part of XI's life cycle you had dynamis, sky / sea, HNM's. Lots of stuff amusing everyone and sideways progression in gear. Now this is just repeating itself with every patch, its the definition of a broken record. NEW patch! 3 new dungeons to replace the expert roulette and a new Ilevel, maybe a new raid. 1 month later, bored...

If they just gave us more ways to play, more things to do outside, more ways to gear your character and really customize it I might be able to commit to this, but until then I think its time for a break

P.S Dont get me started on the players sometimes, 1 day after alex launch and PF already populated with "No Noob" "Bonus = Kick". Get real... Even WOW doesn't have that level of arrogance.

When I started I was always capping gear and had to had the best gear.
Then I realised it doesnt matter, I only do ex primals and dungeons so i dont even need the best gear
And well after that, I log in, try to get cute glamour gear, level alts, and all that.
But I agree with you. I think what I dislike the most is that new gear is just another number, theres nothing interesting that makes you think if you REALLY want that piece or if the one you have has a better effect that you want to keep.

So if the patches dont have cute things, like pink skirts and shoes. I only log in to chat in my fc, or maybe do an ex primal for fun and then play something else.
This is not a game I'd recommend putting in too much time into because it all feels so.. hmm..useless. Yay I got my ilvl 180 gea. Next day its outdated cause i got my ilvl 190 gear etc.

I understand your plight. I left this game when they started scaling end-game content to be easier with new patches. That, along with real life circumstances, just really killed my drive to play. I played a lot of games since and ultimately landed up coming back to FFXIV.

What it came down to is deciding that I really loved this game and wanted to stick with it through the good and bad. I, personally, have never seen a developer that is so responsive to their community and works to compromise with the players to make the QoL more ideal. I feel like this game is going to be around for a long time and I want to be a part of it. I think SE still has a little learning to do. Expectations have changed a lot over the years and I feel like they're still adjusting.

That being said, there are a lot of jerks out there. It comes with any online community. Just find a good FC/LS that's willing to support you and ignore the jerks. Let them have their own community. I'll be over here with all the nice people willing to help one another.

I can see where you're coming from, but I disagree on this point. Since ARR's release there have been a number of completely new features.
    • Beast Tribe Daily Quest
    • Treasure Maps
    • Frontlines/Wolves Den
    • Player Housing/Gardening
    • New Jobs
    • Sightseeing
    • The Hunt
    • Triple Triad
    • Chocobo Racing/Breeding
    • Collectables
    • Free Company Crafting/Airship Voyages

Lots of these fill up my time way more than the standard dungeons, raids, and quests.

However, only a few of these new systems are combat based. I would agree that new battle content would do much to spice up the game.

I feel it comes down to play style, I know people who rush content then stop playing until patches, I know some people who love to mindlessly grind, I know those who love to help others. When you break an MMO down to its core components, it's tedious and boring, but the people make it a GREAT game for me, and MAKE me want to log in again.

I know it's like saying "You're playing it wrong", but I wouldn't be playing this day if it wasn't for the people I play with. We learn the new fights, we share in the awful and awesome RNG, we get/help carry people who need it.

Getting a new weapon is great and all, but getting it with your friends who helped you do it, then helping them to get THEIRS is fun

What do you expect an expansion to be? Of course its going to be more of the same! An expansion to any game is just more of the same with a new coat of paint. That's how life works.

I want something different also, because most of the mmo provide dungeons and raids....

Not really, as Dynamis sky/sea didnt come with FFXIs first xpac, Rise of Zilart was FFXIs first xpac. If you want to compare FFXIV is at the same point as when FFXI was released in the US/EU and theirs a lot more content in FFXIV than FFXI at that point. Sky came with RoZ Sea came with 2nd xpac Chains of Promethia.

NMs weren't anything special they just extended content by limiting supply. Aka 1 each for everyone with a low drop rate, so you weren't just battling the other LSs and the claim bots, you were battling RNG on top of that. BCNMs did help there, but it was an instance with 1 fight. Just like coil and Alex turns/floors.

As it's been mentioned, having sideways progression is a great way to feel like you're not just wasting time till the next patch, however that sideways progression won't work in this game until they implement more interesting sub-stats.

Things like +2% chance to stun on hit, 3/5 pieces of gear = increased crit rate. Basically items that let you chase after some different end-game paths to try and collect but don't fade out once the next numbered patch drops.

I love the people who expected FFXIV to go from gear progression MMO to Action RPG or something.

Seriously, what do you want? You want something "different"... and you cite examples of Sky, Sea, etc... which was just "more of the same" in FFXI as well with a different skin. If you want to get that reductio ad absurdum, then pretty much every aspect of the MMO genre is nothing more than the same thing with a different skin. Every Action RPG is the same game with a different skin. Every FPS is the same game with a different skin.
