    Time speculation

Do we know what kind of time span has gone between the end of 2.0 to 3.0?

I believe it was mentioned somewhere that between 2.55 and 3.0 was only a couple weeks but I might be just mis-remembering something.

We know that 5 years have passed from the Calamity (end of 1.0) to 2.0, but what about now?

    Edit 8/4/15:
New thoughts! Do fortnight and sennight use in-game use the Earth moonphases or Hydaelyn's? Sennight is a 'week' but Eorzea uses 8 days considering the moon phases and that there are 8 phases of 4 nights/days. Is Fortnight 14 days or is it 16?

It was actually officially answered here back during a 'Letter From the Producer Live' video, and yes, it is indeed only a span of several days to a week or two at most between the ill-fated banquet in Ul'dah and the Warrior of Light being granted entry into Ishgard:

    0:05:06
Q: Story-wise how much time has passed since the end of Patch 2.55 and the beginning of Heavensward?
A: While there is no specific mention of how much time has passed in-game, it’s about a few days to a few weeks after the events that took place during Patch 2.55. You can think of this time as the time that passed while Haurchefant was speaking with the people of House Fortemps, and the expansion begins when the Warrior of Light’s entry to Ishgard has been approved, so it’s not like months have passed.
So there you have it. There is no specific period of time mentioned that has passed, but it's around a few days to a few weeks.

    Thanks!

Is it then unanswered how much time has passed between end of 2.0 to 2.55? Or between the patches (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc) ?

I don't think there was an official time. You'd likely have to go back and look at the quests and their respective items to fully gauge the time gap. For instance, one of the quest items in Heavensward, when examined, clearly states that at least a fortnight passed between you being told that the item was going to be made and then you receiving it. I plan on replaying myself here soon, so if I do see how much time has passed, I'll be sure to post here again!

It's a question that the devs would naturally avoid due to how the actual time-span can vary wildly from player to player. Giving specifics will always be immersive for a few and detracting for the majority.

They've made enough effort just so that the player can easily write in their own length of time.

FFXI had actual dates assigned too the turning of moons in real-time. But they failed to foresee how quickly the years shot up. It was so out-of-hand that it wasn't worth looking at. Its expansion, Wings of the Goddess centres around time-travel back to the Crystal War which took place only 20 years before the time when the base FFXI started... which is less than one full real year, probably closer to 9 months. The time you travelled back to would have caught up with the original game several times over. While about 400 years have passed since the games launch. Nobody gave a damn because date isn't a prominent feature but still.

So learning from experience, I think they've simply allowed us to push and pull any part of the games time-span as we please. Yoshi-P may have said the wait at the end of 2.55 to 3.0 could have been weeks, but for some it was maybe an hour out of their day so that Haurchefant could go send word and give us the green light.

Yeah, unfortunately, 2.0 to 2.55 is in a simpsons time bubble. I had thought they mentioned the passage of time once the scions we're moving to revenants toll but I had remembered it wrong (apologizes to moose for taking so long to get back on this) it makes me want to beat my head against my desk. Even more so when they use odd wording like , "some 15 years ago."

I think by the start of Heavensward its probably a year or so after the start of ARR. But that's just an estimate, lol.

Ehhh, I'd say we're still in that year-ish time bubble. It was said that the length of time between 2.55 and 3.0 was a few days to a week, true, but it was also said that our previous time bubble has expanded to encompass 3.0 as well.

Again, it's one of those things you can't think too hard about. Create your own timeline, 'cause you could be waiting a very long time for an official one.

For me, each story line has added little more than a week to my initial 1-50 leveling and the original MSQ, with slightly less in between. So, by that logic my character has blindly wielded the Echo in a reborn realm for...7, 8 months roughly? Maybe another 2 or so if I were to include my time in the 6th Astral Era.

My assumption about the time bubbles were that each #.X series was its own time bubble. I could be very wrong but I feel like with a story-driven game such as FFXIV, that would have been the direction. From the start of 2.0 - 2.55, X amount of time had passed. A few days to a few weeks later, 3.0 comes. Everyone in Heavensward is in a new time bubble.

Since I like this theory lets take it back to 2.0's beginning. We start at the 5th anniversary of The Battle of Carteneau Flats, my guess is from then to around Praetorium is around two weeks-ish (No way in hell Operation Archon was planed an executed in a matter of hours), Then with that being the longest the other patches are things that could have all been accomplished in two days at most. so Times 5 that's 10 days.

So by my estimate were about 24-30 days in, or an ingame month give or take, and then it takes about (Maybe) a week to get word back from Ishgard putting us in around the 2nd month of our adventure approaching the third by the time Heavensward ends.
