3rd/4th Retainer

It has become pretty apparent that with each new patch, and even an expansion now... more items are introduced... more items that have value, more items that will be used for glamour... pretty much MORE MORE MORE.

Yet... SE has refused to give us an additional retainer to compensate for these additions.

I thought with the Expansion, we would at least get a third retainer to accomadate the massive influx of new items... but nothing. Instead.. they just increased the amount of "retainers" you can "buy".

While I consider the cash shop a blatant slap to the face and horrible addition, I can at least see some of the merits in having us "pay" additional fees for more storage.. but the expansion should have had that minor charge for a third retainer already covered.

Regardless.. another bad move on SE's part.

I agree that we should have been provided a 3rd retainer, for free, for purchasing Heavensward. It only makes sense that, if there are going to be tons and tons of new items added, over the course of the expacs duration, then we should be provided the means and ability to store those items without having to toss gear and items we previously collected in order to make room for the new items. I hope this thread gets attention from the forum mods, and that a request for us to be provided with another free retainer is relayed to the dev team. Although, I won't be holding my breath.

3rd retainer doesnt do much good if your a crafter/gatherer. Unless I want to throw away all the stuff I can buy from the FC vendors in home, as well as lower the quality of all my items past level 50. Mixed with glamours, materia (I actually sold or threw out my grade 1-2 just to have more room) and tons of other misc stuff I need. Its very crowded and I have even tossed all I can into the Armoire.

Well yea.. I had to throw away several pieces of old content armours that took weeks to get thanks to RNG to make room. I caved in and got a third retainer and it still isnt enough. Thats why I said 3/4.. but knowing SE they will if they decide to actually care for us add only the lowest amount... which would be a third retainer.

Also... Yoshi P's mantra for the cash shop was that he wanted to add items that didnt give people an unfair advantage... a la vi pay to win. Yet having extra retainers clearly gives those who get them a very clear advantage.

AlphaFox how many do you think would be a good amount for free retainers. I want to say 3/4.. aiming more towards 4 for the upcoming patches. I think Mugen said three at least would be ideal for now... but we should be a little greedy and go for the 4 >=D

Honestly, I think 3 is fair for free. I've had 3 for several months but the storage really needs to let us put more gear into it is my main issue. Now I admit if I leveled all my classes to 50/60 I would be a bit better off space wise and if I dropped crafting all together I'd be golden. Just so much crafting materials which either are a pain to gather in the expansion or way to expensive on MB, even some vendor prices are kinda nuts for like Holy water.

At this point I agree, three retainers is all but necessary. One of mine holds nothing but level 50 and under gear, and another one holds 51+ gear. They're both on the 7th tab now.

Since I am a crafter/gatherer, I pay SE an extra $6/month for three more retainers. That's.... a lot.

Luckily I don't think I'll ever need that many but 4 (id keep the one I got now) seems it would suit me fine. I guess all in all I could throw away some glamour and rebuy it from the salvager but items bought from the mog-station are not carried by him either, meaning if you paid for it, pray you don't accidentally throw it away. Least when I tested for the Female white yukata.

It is not a cash shop item, but an extra account service. Retainers don't show up in the cash shop list.


Sell everything you can buy from NPC. You can check on xivdb.com if a NPC sell the item.

Doesnt mean it isnt a cash shop item. It's just a different way of saying the same thing.

Most omni crafters and gatherers have 4 or more retainers already. Many crafters I know have 6 retainers, I still have my 4. However I do agree with others about getting a free 3rd retainer. Yoshi said we couldnt get extra inventory slots because it would overload the servers with all the characters inventory increasing. But they could have easily added a free retainer while the servers were down for 24+ hours.
