    Unjust Kicking from Alexander T4

I'll preface this by admitting that it's a rant thread. I'm angry and am just venting. You can ignore this thread if you wish.....

So, I just qued up for the fourth turn of Alexander, ("The Burden of the Father"), for my first time. I told the group that it was such as soon as we were in, and asked again before the fight started what I needed to know. The only response I got was "dodge, kill adds, avoid other players". Someone in the party placed A, B, and C markers, but no one explained why. No one else said anything in regards to the fight itself aside from complaining that they had bad DPS in their last run. Part way into the run and I hadn't encountered any issues. I hadn't been hit by any AoEs, and was doing my job. Then when the adds spawned, I began to attack one before noticing that another had been marked with the "1" symbol, which in every other run ever indicates that the party should focus on said target. Of course, I promptly switched targets, and we killed the marked add. Then we wiped and someone claimed it was because the DPS didn't individually take on the other adds. I asked why no one explained that, even though I told them I was running it for the first time, and without another word I was kicked......

What is it with all these Elitist players who expect you to know everything about a run the first time you attempt it, and won't offer any explanations even when you make it clear that you are new, then proceed to kick players after one failed attempt for not knowing what they didn't bother to explain?

Just poor people who think they are too good to run with newbies. Only thing you can sadly do is try another group and hope its one more tolerable of new people. People have WAY to high expectation going into a duty finder and expecting everyone to master the turn before they even try it.

Apathy from the group is most likely why you were successfully kicked.

I've found that most people tend to just be silent and go with what whatever the loudest person wants, which is usually the rager wanting to kick/abandon wrongly.

I don't know what's more sad, the ragers themselves, or the apathy of the people who don't care when fellow players are treated like dirt.

I agree that the kick was unjust. You made the mistake once. Not over and over. Plus you were new.

However, they're not obligated to type out all the mechanics for you (a random pug), just like you're not obligated to know the mechanics. It bugs me when newbies rage at vets for not holding their hands. I know you didn't rage - I'm just saying that it's a pet peeve of mine when it does happen.

I sympathise with this ignorance dude. Was running Garuda HM with my missus to get her the staff and one particular had these two speed runners screaming "DPS Garuda only! No feathers or sisters. Now maybe this is norm for parties where everyone is decked out in high i100's but two guys were new.

Naturally we wiped, what a joke.

When I do my first run of any fungeon or a raid, I always go in blind and turn off party chat to avoid mechanics spoilers.
Maybe it's selfish but it's more fun this way. When, and only when I'll cause wipes I'll ask for explanation.
I also watch guide videos only after experiencing Ex primals blindly.

Reminds me of a time I got Ravana HM in trial roulette. Someone said right at the start that they were turning off party chat because it was more fun to experience the fight fresh.

Needless to say, they got knocked out of the arena right at the beginning and spent the rest of the encounter on the ground. It's just kind of ironic... I have a feeling being dead the whole time probably wasn't the fun experience he was going for.

Fun for you, maybe. Not fun for the other three or seven random people that have to carry someone that's not only ignorant of the mechanics, they're also completely uncommunicative. I can see going in blind when your entire party is going in blind. Going in blind to Duty Finder and expecting the rest of the party to carry your weight... eh. Honestly, if I ran into someone in a duty that did all the mechanics wrong and had zero communication with the party, I'd probably assume they were there to troll and initiate a kick on them. Turning off the chat box is basically saying "screw you" to the other seven people in the party. :/

Square Enix is the one to blame. Since FFXI they create game mechanics where being a newbie is a punishemnt and the only way to prevail is to study the game outside like a job and have a hard skin against harassment.

Gms don't/can't do anything about it, Devs don't really bother about it (i think after 10 years of FFXI they actually encourage players to be assholes towards newbies since all of them are in endgame linkshells/free companies).

There is only one way to get over this. Find yourself a good endgame FC that has mature and patient veterans willing to teach and then reward them with skill. Everyone wins.

If players have the tools to be douchebags then they will be for sure. Its up to Square to change the way endgame works so this abuse ends once and for all. But they won't change it, so it's up to you.

There is literally no difference between going into content and asking if there's anything you should know, and looking it up online yourself. In both cases, you are seeking knowledge about the mechanics. So by your own statement, asking about mechanics in-game is also "studying like a job".

However, looking it up yourself is usually more reliable/helpful, as often people either don't want to explain once you're inside, or the mechanics are difficult to explain just using text.
