    Why break the circle?

    Crafters have always needed gatherers.

    Gatherers have not always needed pve but recently more so. (treasure maps/flying unlocked/ect)

    Pve Doesnt Need or even Want either.. Takes 1-2 days to farm a set of law gear full ilvl170. Another 1 to turn it to ilvl180 via hunts. Alex 4 drops per chest ilvl190s / Eso tokens ilvl200/Savage most people cant get but ilvl210..
    So where does the 6 unlocked pieces of ilvl180 crafting gear fit in here? It takes weeks to farm just 1.. Jewelry/Weapons locked on top of that.

    When was the last time you saw a shout LOOKING FOR A CRAFTER beyond food/pots while the market is dieing and no words from SE? Materia is plummeting across all servers becuase well nothing to put them in.

    Wait for the new Relic Quest. Then we'll see where the market shifts. Relic was why materia were so highly priced. Now that Grade IV is easier to get and the relic quest is merely for glamour, a major part of the market has collapsed.

    As for crafted gear itself, it's never been a huge part of pve needs as far as I know, although there was some BiS options for Bard that involved crafting in 2.5. But its unusual for a pve class to /need/ crafted gear, unless for glamour.

    Crafted gear in 2.0 when pentamelded, was yards ahead of darklight gear at the time. Groups cleared BCoB right when it was released and the devs actually commented that they didnt anticipate this kind of melding and equipping, as it gave a bigger advantage than they planned for in BCoB. The crafted gear from 2.3-2.5 was competitive in certain pieces when pentamelded and almost every Job could get a BiS crafted piece, some were chest, some were rings, etc etc.

    It was a bit more than just Bard pieces from 2.5. In this expansion, they absolutely decimated the edge crafted gear gave and have heavily gated crafting behind weekly scrip caps. It seems pretty clear SE wanted to knock crafting down a few pegs, because they were concerned the better FC's and groups of players with high amounts of gil and crafted jobs leveled, would establish a clear advantage over other players if the normal pattern continued.

    Though, it does leave a sour taste in the mouth.

    Yoshi-P made crafted / melded gear so hard to access that by the time we can actually get a piece the chances for it to be an upgrade are slim to none. On top of that there are no accessories anymore.
    This more than likely was due to SE wanting to gate the savage content as much as possible.

    In 2.x those pentamelded crafted gears or accessories laced with vit, let people beat content at a way lower ilvl / timeframe than the dev's anticipated.

    They are trying to strech out the life of the content as much as possible.

    and sadly the crafters are the ones who got a big ole size 14 kick between the legs.
