    Batch Synthesis after 1.19

    Calm down, it's not another tl;dr.

    I noticed that for a lot of the raw material synthesis, they have been moved from being "1x raw => X result" to "3x raw => 3x result" and while this is nice and will save on crystals, it becomes cumbersome when you dont have exact/multiples of 3. Especially with the 100% HQ reforms that are being planned for 1.20. Under this current system, if I want say... 1 Dodo Leather for a making a hat. And a meteor just hit Uldah killing all the retainers instantaneously and there are no Dodo Skins for sale, I will need to go out an farm three, even though I'll only need one because the synthesis requires 3.

    Also, from a skilling up standpoint this is very costly. It would now appear that in order to make as much SP as before, we need to buy 3x as many raw materials. It also increases the risk because failing one of these synths makes us lose 3x raw materials instead of only 1.


    What I am suggesting is that the base recipe would be 1 to 1. 1 Dodo Skin = 1 Dodo Leather, 1 Maple Log = 1 Maple Lumber, etc. And add (at the cost of a small amount of guild points) some kind of bundling piece that allows for bulk synthesis.

    If I only need 1 Dodo Leather, I can make just one. If I'm going to be skilling up on a finished material and need several hundred dodo leathers, I could fill up the window with 6 dodo skins, the alumen, and the bundling material and crank out bulk synths of 6 each.

    Would anyone else be in favor of a more flexible system like this?

    Apparently the development team is in favor of a more flexible system like this.

    The new/updated recipes in 1.19 will feature this system. Not all of the 1~>1 recipes are shown in the new recipe section, as many of them are the updated versions of the old recipe.

    Following your example, there is an updated recipe that is (1 Dodo skin + 1 Alumen ) ~> 1 Dodo Leather.

    Where did you find this information? There was a ton to read through so its entirely possible I overlooked it but I did not see it indicated anywhere.

    The updated recipes are in a completely different section than the new recipes. It makes sense, but is somewhat awkward.

    Ah I see, thanks. That looks like it is only breaking the old recipes so that people won't still use them to get more materials. I wonder if those recipes will be phased out in the future when they plan on axing all the old recipes. Would definitely be nice to have some quantity options though.

    Well, they definitely are breaking the current 1 ~> 4 recipes. Having both 1~> 4 and 1~> 1 recipes in the game at the same time would just be silly.

    If you look at the updated leather recipes, all of the leather types that are remaining now use alumen (the new leather "catalyst") instead of wood chips (the old leather "catalyst"). I could be mistaken, but it looks a lot like the long term plan is to have 1~>1 recipes and 3~>3 recipes for each material type. The 3~>3 recipes are generally very slightly more material efficient, although use the same number of shards per finished item. I would not be surprised if the "batch" recipes were a higher rank, as well (e.g. dodo leather 1-batch is rank 13, dodo leather 3-batch is rank 18, aldgoat leather 1-batch is rank 23, aldgoat leather 3-batch is rank 28, etc).

    Also since there will be a period where both the new and old recipe can be used only the new recipes will yield the result with improved stats. So those that adopt the new way will essentially make the better item. So might as well just use new way just saying.
