    Beginner's Guide to Mining?

    Hi all!

So I've been thinking I'd like to take up Mining. To date, I have a level 28 BTN, but most of those levels were just me hacking away, trying to complete the Logs (no pun intended) and doing the job quests. Now this was last year and I've since fallen off the DoL train. So I'd like to start it up again with a Miner. I was curious if there was any sort of tips or directions folks could give me in starting out. Should I just complete the Logs and Job quests? Is there anything I can do to speed up the leveling process? Does the game itself walk me through the leveling, or will it be mostly up to me (i.e. tutorials and whatnot). Are there Leves for DoL?

I have so many questions, and it's quite intimidating to jump right into a brand new class without a game plan!

Thanks for any and all help everyone!

right click on the rocks to get the items.

use levequests to level, manually grinding it out will drive you batshit insane and is absurdly slower. at level 55-56 you start using collectables to level up instead.

make sure to keep gear that gives +gathering up to date. you won't need to bother with the +perception gear slots until level 55, as you cannot HQ levequest items.

it's seriously simply stuff so don't worry about it.

Actually, start worrying about Perception, and Collectibles, once you hit 50. 50 to 60 on Collectibles is some seriously good exp, enough that Leves, which are your primary exp before 50, become a decent supplement to the Collectible exp. That, however, requires decent gathering gear ...

    Your best friend.

Just gather stuff till L 10, then do levequests.

Once you it 20 there are nodes near Buscroon's Druthers that give silver ore and effervescent water. Serious gil for a L 20 miner.

If you have Goldsmith high enough silver ingots are even better.

    Another potentially ignorant question:

Are there cross-class skills I need to worry about with Miner? I played Fisher for all of 30 minutes a year ago, and as stated above, have a 28 BTN. Not sure if that makes any difference with Miner or not. Anywho, thanks again for the advice everyone!

Uhh with miner you can use the three level 20 elemental skills you get with BTN. In turn you can also use the 3 elemental skills on BTN that miner gives, they work together c:.

the elemental skills aren't really important. King's Yield II fulfils the same role but @ 500 GP instead of 400. However the HQ differential is pointless because at 600 GP (the highest GP threshold that's reasonable to hit), you can't do anything with the extra 100 GP on cluster nodes (if you need more accuracy you can use the 100 GP skill, and you can't king's yield I + elemental ward until 800 GP which you literally cannot reach). And if you're going after clusters or crystals, you're better off just going for ephemeral nodes (level 60 thing).

and shards aren't worth the time b/c people who either bot or have way too much time on their hands gather them by the thousands and sell them for like 48-50 gil per which is abysmally not worth anyone's time except really new players.

Those cross class level 20 skills are valuable. As a fledgling crafter/gatherer, you really do want to make use of them.

400 GP for +2 Yield? That's a savings compared to King's Yield 2, which means that you can use it again sooner. You regain 5 GP every 3 seconds, or basically every swing. That's one minute's worth of GP, or 20 swings, sooner that you can use the elemental ability.

If you are actively trying to build up a stash of shards, crystals, or even clusters, and are not able to do the Aetherial Reduction (which does not work for shards anyway) those elemental cross class abilities are your best friends.
