If AST could heal as much as a WHM, then it would completely destroy the only strength that WHM has. WHM lost almost all of it's mitigation potential with 3.0. It's nothing more than a heal-bot now. AST, while having to fight the RNG of cards, still has a LOT more utility than WHM does. Balance is all about tradeoffs. The more utility potential a healer has, the less heal potential it has to have.

AST healing potential is actually fine. Where work needs to be done is in the card strengths.

I agree that every healer must have something that he does best. But WHM ATM has some strong attacks as well. WHM has more Dots than AST, has more AOE skills than AST and Stone 3 hits for 210 potency against 200 potency of Malefic 2.
Sure AST can help the DPS of other players like no other job can, but if you can't keep the tank alive, what's the purpose?
