[dev1016] Why remove multiple damage types on weapons?

[dev1016] The following changes have been made to Item attributes:

Damage Type has been changed to comprise a single element, as opposed to multiple (totaling 100%).
I don't understand the benefit of this, nor do I particularly like it. I assume dumbing it down to one damage type makes them easier to balance. However it would come at a cost of weapon mechanics which make individual weapons more interesting(overall weapon appraisal deeper), encourages players dedicated to a class to use multiple weapons(potentially anyway, since there are so few weapons for some classes) and not just use the weapon with the highest DPS, and a sense of verisimilitude for Halberd-like weapons(which is essentially three weapons in one, which is why I like them the most). This feels like a retrogression to me(to FFXI in particular) and I don't believe this game's combat needs to be made simpler.

I'd like to hear the devs comment on this change a little since I wasn't really expecting it and don't know why it was done. Also curious to see if anyone agrees with me(probably not).

They always can release weapons with different attributes. Like rapiers in ffxi, they are swords but inflicts piercing damage

I expect as much, for example Gladiator's daggers are likely going to be piercing. However we won't see something that is aligned to both piercing and a little fire. Then there is the example of Halberd which is blunt, slashing, and piercing all at once.

More importantly though, it limits what weapons can be.
