A dummy and boss are entirely different beasts, however. 3 GKs a minute doesn't translate well to A1, 3, or 4 most of the time. You usually have to be very aware of upcoming phase transitions to judge whether or not to GK or reapply BotD, but there's still stuff(like quarantine or ferrofluid) that you can't account for.

Yeah... Similarly, if you have to move at all on black mage during astral fire, you're probably have to modify your rotation some on the go. It's the same with other jobs too, though. Sometimes I'll have to cast huton instead of armor crush for various reasons. Sometimes I won't be able to fit the entire opener on a boss before he goes invulnerable. Obviously you can't play at dummy rotation optimal 100% of the time, but you absolutely can learn to adapt and optimize your damage output for the situation.
